W111 Coupe gets new carpet

The kit from GAHH arrived yesterday, so I installed the 6 easy pieces just to see what looks like. I'll do the side rails, rear hump, and under rear seat areas this week.

Thanks! Next job is to reupholster the lower dash bolster. I've found a German supplier for the rubber mats at the door thresholds, and ordered a pair last week. Looking forward to installing those, because as you can see (especially on the passenger side) mine are shot. https://ok-gummiwerk.de/produkt/en-turschwellerauflage-fur-klassische-mercedes-benz-fahrzeuge/?lang=en

Today I masked off the interior and painted the headliner. It was perfect as far as the condition of the fabric, but badly stained from the old glue seeping through it.

The car is finally getting to a point where it's not embarrassing to drive, and with the new tires, tie rods, alignment, engine mounts and vibration damper, and trans mount, it's very smooth, quiet, and the clunks/pops are gone. It's an absolute joy to drive.

Mine needs a new headliner due to discoloration. How did the paint work? Mine has a sunroof-not sure how the paint would work. And it's a bit saggy. Looking forward to your progress on coupe related projects.

The paint worked great. It was difficult to get the blue masking tape to stick to the black rubber rear glass gasket, and the side window gaskets, so I had to be careful while spraying. I removed the sun visors and the cover for the front interior light. I taped around the front windshield upper wood and rear view mirror, and the hand rails in the "ceiling," as well as the rear interior light. The chrome trim on those was being difficult to remove, so rather than fight with it, and risk damaging the pieces, or slipping and tearing the headliner, I just masked them off. I left the sunroof closed, and painted that panel as-is, in the roof. I did remove the rear seat, and the new carpet mats because I knew I'd be doing a lot of climbing around in there.

It looks very much like a normal headliner now. It was very bad before with staining.

My headliner is also low, just rearward of the sunroof opening. I'm guess that bow was probably "tied off" to the rear frame of the sunroof, and that fabric has long since failed. There would be no way to safely get the headliner fabric off the body, without tearing it, in order to access and repair this issue, so for now, I'll leave it alone. If/when I decide to disassemble the entire car for paint, I'll completely replace the headliner.

Attached is a better photo of the carpet up close, and the car, bagged for headliner painting.

That was kind of my thought. I guess if I did not like the results of the paint no great loss. Mine sags in the same place.

Yesterday the new door threshold rubber mats arrived. They look great. Can't wait to put them in!

I removed the leaking engine oil cooler/heat exchanger from under the left engine mount arm yesterday, along with the radiator. Both are at a very talented local radiator shop. There was no issue with the radiator, but I figured storing the car from 2009-2019 did the radiator no favors, so I'd have it rodded out while the system was torn apart. Removing that cooler was no fun.
