Need pics of 1968-1970 300SEL with M130 engine

I'm considering putting an M130 engine into a W112 car that has an M189 engine. My understanding is that the M109 300 SEL cars from 1968 to 1970 had the M130 engine. I'm hoping for pictures showing how the air compressor and power steering pump mount....

thanks
Scott

I have a 1970 300SEL 2.8 with the M130. I can tell you the suspension compressor and power steering pump are located on the lower front drivers side of the engine in the same location where the power steering pump is located on non-air suspension m130 cars.

Attached are some shots of the engine when I had it out for a rebuild.

Thanks, that's pretty much how I thought it would be. Now all I would need is a bracket and a bunch of other stuff!

Scott, since it's not the original engine, is there a reason you're looking at the M130 over the M116 or M117?

Having worked on a W109 with an M116 I found it a total pain in the ass. No room. Not sure it would even fit in a Fintail. So I think putting a M130 (= M180) into a car that originally came with an M180 (w111 = w112) would be a much easier swap.

Was just curious! I have heard complaints about space on the V8s in the 108/109 cars, but I never had that issue (and I did a head swap, cams, timing chain, alternator, and tons of other work on mine). I never had to deal with the additional air suspension stuff, though. Personally, if I had a 112, I'd try my best to keep an M189 in it!

First choice is definitely to keep the M189 in it. But if it needs a rebuild that is completely cost-prohibitive.

Parts

Scott,

Besides the pump and the mounting bracket, the upper oil pan is different. It has the oil return hole for the compressor. The bracket has a ridgid oil line that fits into a hole in the uppper oil pan.. There is an o-ring that seals the oil drain line to the upper oil pan. The bracket is bolted down to the upper oil pan to hold the oil drain line snug againt the oil pan.

John
