1972 220d engine compatibility
I have a 1972 220d w114 with column shift ,the engine is really worn ,can anyone tell me if there is pistons compatible with this engine (keeping weight in mind) or if a complete 300d engine will fit om my gearbox...Regards.

Yes it sure will. You can hook up either the automatic or the 4 speed between the 615's, 616's or the 617's. You might have to change the length of your drive shaft and find a different transmission mount. If you go 300D, you should change out the differential and speedometer. I have a complete setup with a 240D and four speed to go, if you are interested PM me.

If you go for a 617 you will want the early one with the oil filter down below like from a 76 300d.

Are you sure that you have a 114 chassis. The Russian EPC -Every thing Benz doesn't show any diesel. Anyway, if you haven't seen this, you will love it. Find your model and follow it down. It shows everything.
