I should start by saying that I have known my wife since she was 14 and I can honestly say that all she has ever wanted was a 280se Cab. For her 40th birthday back in June I promised to find her dream car. It was a frustrating hunt but it finally paid off.

The car was built in September of 1969 as a 1970 model year. The car is clean and rust free but by no means is it a show car. The previous owner was an lady who received for her 42 birthday and now must be in late sixties or early seventies so she has owned it for near 30 years. Her eyesight has failed and the DMV has revoked her license. She claims early on she had the interior was redone by Barris Kustom Industries (of The Batmobile fame) and in fact there is a plaque on the dash from Barris. I presume that is when the wood gauge binnacle from a 250se was installed.

It runs well and currently everything on it works except for the A/C and the radio. That said I am tending to the basics you run into on an old car. I am having the subframe mounts replaced. All of the rubber under the hood is being replaced and I mean every hose and belt. Since it is all apart I had the radiator re-cored and the water pump replaced. All the fluids and filters have been changed including the brakes. I even dropped the oil pan and cleaned out 36 years of oil residue. Two days ago I received the repaired Becker back and purchased a replacement speaker so the radio will be functioning. Yesterday I ordered a boot cover from world industries and should have it next week. I’ll address the A/C when summer comes around. I figure that the ounce of prevention on an old car that carries my wife and kids is well worth the price. I hope to tap this forum for help in keeping it on the road and will give back whatever I can.

Regards,

Ron

Wow. My dream car too. Word of advice though. Not a good practice to have a picture of your kids w/ your car's license plate floating on the Net. Too many scumbag predators out there. And yes, I'm paranoid. Always draw over or blur out the plates.

Best of luck w/ that black beauty, I am jealous.

Sadly, nospark makes a wholly valid point.

Nice car.

Cute kids.

Kick-ass spousal unit.

House seems OK, too

I'm in a state where a license plate number and two bucks gets you a subway ride; in other words, it's useless. Adding three kids can't help much. Are plate numbers useful in CA?

That is one heck of a photo, with a great car, big house, nice kids and nice wife. You're a lucky man at 40. I just showed the pictures to my wife, who's been on my case about the expenses for a convertible getting paint. She loves your paint job; perhaps she'll lighten up a bit.

Thx -CTH

Good honest pics with convertible top normally folded down. Usually we see em with the ridiculous cover installed. If it was me I'd ditch the headrests though, so the little rascals can scramble around in the car.

Probly what the car was meant for - 3 kids and 2 adults. Glad to see you rescued it from the old lady holding it hostage. Daily driver that you will never give up, should easily last a lifetime.

That is one beautiful car in an idyllic setting. Pasadena perhaps? Cherish what you have and welcome to the forum.

That's cool that Barris did some of the interior work. He's known for his more outlandish stuff and movie cars, but he turned out some great old Mercs and street rods. I'd be interested to hear if there's anything else he added to the car.

Good looking Benz - feel free to let us know of any questions/ concerns. Sounds as though you've got the basic stuff well in mind.

Also, tires, regardless of mileage, deteriorate over time. If they're old, put them on your list of stuff to replace.

What a beauty!

Wow, you lucky dog! I've always loved those 280se's. And a convertable at that. If you happen to be in the L.A. area and see a '73 280c that is cream color driving around, go ahead and honk, and I'll return the gesture.

Welcome to MercedesShop! Lots of great help around here.

Greg
