Horn honks by itself - 250SL

I've had the car for 2 years with no useable horn. I just got a new horn installed and the other had a bad connection. They now work a bit too well. The car honks by itself. It happens at low speed when cranking the wheel hard and/or going over bumps. My sister said to just live with it and wave at people, but I want to fix it. I suspect a short in the wires after the steering column. Has anyone else had this problem? The car is so low that I won't do much myself as I don't have a hoist.
Thanks for any and all tips.

Pull the Steering wheel [ one nut] and you will see the horn switch assembly.
You will probably see a loose/broken part there...

Mark the wheel first for re-assem....

If you have a 113 , you want to be here..

Once you pull the wheel, you'll see the rod that the column shift rides on. It managed to contact the horn rings on my wheel when in reverse only. I fixed it by painting the shifter rod with POR-15 paint, since it's the toughest stuff I've ever encountered. I suppose non-conductive epoxies would work great for insulating it.

Ah, SL, oops. Well for future reference now everybody knows why a 108 chassis will intermittently honk in reverse.

Thanks for the thought anyway, Matthew. It may help somebody someday. I drove the car a bunch today and it didn't honk ever. I didn't drive more than dead slow in parking lots, however. Weather is still going to be nice tomorrow so I'll drag myself under it. Of course, I'd rather wash it and drive it!
