Blower motor location
I have a 1988 300E. I my blower fan has stopped.
My question is this: Is the blower motor for the cabin inside the engine compartment aft as in this DIY guide http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W124BlowerMotor

Sadly, yes it is. I have practiced on a few at the local Pic N Pull and find the most difficult part of removing the blower motor are the handful of clips that surround the coffin the motor is in. Unclipping them is so so. Resnapping them back on can be cumbersome.
The most troublesome was the large clip that actually holds the motor in place. Has a small hole at the tip. Best to fashion a hook tool and tug on the clip that way. |

thank you so much. Sadly, I was under the impression it was behind the dash in the middle of the console. I believe my shop mechanic told me this was the reason it was so expensive to replace. lol
The motor without cages is not expensive at all. hopefully mine is just jammed up or something.

These motors tend to bind with dirt. And ultimately freeze up. Or blow a fuze.
You may find the cages stiff to turn. They should spin freely. Some use WD40 and others use a finer auto trans fluid at the bearings to free up. Which ever you use, the cabin will smell like a refinery for a bit. Hopefully your brushes are not worn out. Replacing requires patience and soldering. Something I am not good at. Take care on the cages. They tend to get brittle. Should you need a new motor or just another used, but in better shape than yours, I can help. If this is what you decide, I will look for and then price to you with shipping that includes delivery confirmation. If I find a good used blower, I can send pics to you first for you to consider. I gather parts for others as a hobby. So I can add your needs to my list if you chose. Thanks. Dan(cdplayer) |

Man, that was so easy getting the blower motor out. Mine is fried. The bearings were squealing off and on for a while and it was totally bound up, as in no movement, or very very stiff movement.
I got the cages off pretty easily and ordered a new motor for $75. thanks for the help
