m104 differences early 90s 3.2

I know there are a few different looking 3.2's from early 90s MB cars (different looking valve covers and intake manifolds) .. does anyone know the differences? im talking oil squirters, materials the block is made of including pistons, piston rods and crankshaft, is it cast or machined?

I'd say there was two basic versions - the KEs / .990s and the HFMs / .991, .992 and .994s. The principal difference between them is the engine management and ignition systems but output was about the same. There's a lot of parts overlap between the two but a person could go on EPC and compare part numbers right down the line.
