AMG VIN #s?
Is there any way/place to run a VIN and find out if it was an authentic AMG masterpiece? (Pre-1980 by the way).

Not that I know of. AMG tuned cars of that period will have the VIN that came from the Mercedes factory, since they were not a "manufacturer" with their own code. "Due diligence" on AMG parts involves checking part numbers and most important . . . the engine serial number stamp, which will have an AMG number replacing the Mercedes number.
