W126 Gauge Cluster Disassembly

I need to remove the clear lens from my gauge cluster to install pretty new chrome rings. Does it simply pry off, or is it glued? These types of details are always nice to know prior to breaking something.

The clear lens on mine is glued and I would suspect the whole thing will crack if you try to pry it. I repainted the black plastic surround and I ended up just masking the lens with tape for that reason. If its like mine, you will have to disassemble it from the back.

Thanks. I have had the back apart several times. No problem there. I wonder if you can install the rings from the back?

WAIT!

I have done this stuff before.

feed the rings for the tachometer and accessory gauges through the speedometer hole, once they are in place then feed the speedometer ring on its side will need to push it in, dont worry, you will not bend the ring enough to warp it.

then once that is all in, clean the rings with a light soap and water mix to get rid of fingerprints.

hope this helps, email me at bhatia55@comcast.net if you need more help too

W126 cluster Odometer repair

Hello all,

May not be the correct thread to post, but can someone please direct me where I can buy/order the little gear ( and I mean little) that turns the gear-shaft for the odometer assembly the one directly powered by the plastic worm gear. Mine broke in little fragments before I could super glue together inplace on the shaft.

thanks in advance for any help
