My kid throws everything out of the cot...diaper and all.

My w124 has that same spot forming, plus a big hole behind the front wheels where the windshield drains dump dirt and tree debris. Might want to poke around up front if the 201 shares that design.

Good patch BTW!

That reminds me of a few years back - the twins used to do that with their nappies (diapers) - one would take it off and giggle; you'd reach over and rectify the problem to find the other one had done the same; then you'd rectify that problem to find that the first one had done it again...

Getting there

No welding on a Sunday! However =>

Cleaning up the intake manifold is fun

More intake manifold

The area next to the injectors are really grotty - caked in burnt oil deposits. As usual undergone to the rescue

Does anyone remember where I put that 4th injector?

It takes a long time to get more than a decade of gunk out of an inlet / intake manifold

But I'm getting there - the lower part that holds the throttle valve assembly was black and now it is...

Gasket for the manifold to go up against the pre-warming heater is 102 141 27 80
Gasket between manifold and lower section that holds throttle valve assembly is 102 141 28 80

The famous air idle control valve is

a strange thing

As is the mixture control unit

Engine degreaser a go go - don't let it all get too too wet!

Removal of air guide from mixture control unit

I've been wondering what's inside

Almost a milestone day!

Almost finished the welding on the right rear wheel arch - I can't get my head under the car - can't raise the car any higher - so I have to finish it off on a lift. Luckily there's a new car club just opened locally so I can actually finish it off.

I got so excited I went and grabbed #2 daughter's mini skate board (that is no use for learning to skate on - far too short a board) and used it to slide the sub frame under the car...

...only to remember that I need to fit the anti-roll bar and the rear brake lines and the fuel lines...

I got these brake lines ages ago from a place in Germany that was way way cheaper than the dealer. You have the straighten them from the envopak...

...unfortunately one is way way too long =>

As you can see I had a bloody nightmare - it is well wobbly - I might change it for another line from the dealer.

Here's the vent valve for the fuel tank

Fitting the rubber cover before fitting the fuel lines!

Trial fit for the sub frame!

Sodding Lemforder!

Why? Why? Why? Sodding star shaped bolt head. I don't have those sockets.

Bolts only done up finger tight - which is just as well because I think they'll have to come out to get the suspension arms fitted.

I'm pretty sure I used a 6pt socket on those subframe bolts. I do not think I own those sockets either and I for sure used that style bolt with my sportline subframe mounts.

Nice one I'll give that a go.

I'm going to have to bit the bullet and get some more tools

The new TRW bolts for the suspension need triple square M10 drivers - I give up - I need to get some of these "modern" tools.

So torx sockets and triple squares are being sourced.

###################

After spending ages getting the valve cover repainted I thought I'd cut to the chase and buy a good second hand air filter assembly.

I thought I found a good one on marktplaats. The picture was good - the description was great - it specifically said no rust...

...when it arrived the packaging was great - very neatly done - looked like it was a good buy...

...waa waa oomps - slightly rusty a bit scratched and filthy. Here's the filter cover that I wanted to be so lush =>

A bit of degreaser shows the goo stuck to the top of the cover

Lots of elbow grease with polish got this far

In the end to cut down on elbow grease I used a bit of thinner to remove the goo

I still need to finish this off but it does get good in the end

Wow, I take my eyes away from this thread for a few weeks and suddenly your daily driver is all taken apart! Can't say that wouldn't be the case with me, either...

So how's the G wagon project coming along then?

Is it on the other side of the world?
