Dehumidifier questions

It is pretty damp and humid here being on the coast and I am thinking I may use a Dehumidifier in my shop where my MB will be parked. I went to the storage unit where it is and it was pretty damp inside but not much I can do there. Anyone using one and experiences? Does anyone drain it to outside with a condensate pump?
Edit-lots of them have a built in pump.

I have one running in the garage all summer. It's not as effective as air conditioning, but it does keep the leather seat covers free of mold. I'd never use a built in drain pump, they are usually not reliable. Instead, I attach a hose and let it gravity drain into my sump, which happens to be in the garage. If the garage is at ground level, you can drill a hole in the siding and drain directly outside.

I'll tell you a secret: I got my dehumidifer for free. There's a site called Merchrebate.com where they have a very limited range of goods. You buy a product, and they pay you to review it..the payments approach the price of the goods. I have no idea how they make that business profitable, all I know is that free worked for me.

Thumbs up Dehumidifier

Sounds like a wise thing to me, is there a method of measuring the square footage and then figuring out how large a unit you need ? .

Well I'm not sure if I need one or not but I am considering the possibility. Nothing ever seems damp unless it's outside (or in a storage unit) so maybe in a warm garage it will be fine. I know how these old cars rust and we are less than a mile from the ocean. My coupe came from San Francisco (also at the ocean) and it has some rust but not bad. Humidity and salt-not a good combination.

Tony, You could put a humidistat in the garage and check the level. If it is often over 50% it might be worth getting a dehumidifier. They aren't cheap to run as it is basically an air conditioner. I run a Danby brand in the basement and it is very effective. If the concern/issue is mostly the interior of the car you could use desiccant to absorb the moisture.

Good luck!!!

As far a drainage is concerned just elevate it and gravity hose it any way convenient. No worries there.

Yea after a little research draining seems like no problem. A little condensate pump like a furnace uses would be fine. I might check into the desiccant for my car at the storage unit. Only leather left in the car is dash and rear shelf I took everything else out. I will definitely check humidity.

I'd say : if your house AC unit drips water then a dehumidifier would be a wise thing .

As mentioned, you'll need to budget for the electricity..

No AC-it does not get hot here. Read a lot of Amazon reviews and electricity use does not seem too bad.

I shop around flea market's and yard sales. One is good for two car garage, should list sg. ft. need to clean key board. put on floor seal doors. you can run drain hose to bucket. I used one in my basement for years. Now weather is summer or winter. no fall, or spring.
