Hitting a deer is always on my mind. My parents hit one in a rental car on a x country trip while driving through Wyoming. Messed up their vacation. I hit one in my Tacoma at highway speed just a few miles from home. Limped home with a rubbing tire and $6000 repair. Can't imagine the repair bill if I hit one while driving my 3.5 Coupe.

I ran the $7500 through the BLS inflation calculator. The today value is $71,000.

I'm not sure you could build one from the ground up for that today.

Post Buying Classic Vehicles

You're right ~ it's always cheaper tpo buy one after it's been restored and enjoyed a bit .

I only paid $3K for my old 1959 VW Beetle but it zoomed past $10K easily and still has the same old crappy paint job and no headliner .

Runs like new now though .

I sort of doubt that since the Cobra was more than twice as much as the most loaded Mustang. This was at a dealership in Dallas called Horn-Williams.

I didn't see any Shelby Mustangs while I was there but I remember the salesmen talking about them. The Shelby was something they claimed to specialize in. They said Carol himself even dropped by now and then to see how they were selling.

I am not sure that part would be true. Why would he ask about Shelby Mustangs and not care about the Shelby Cobra?
I recall that back then, according to Road and Track anyway, I had no personal experience with it, Ferraris sold for about $15,000. Of course you had to have serious Ferrari cred to buy one. There weren’t that many for sale and they didn’t sell to just anyone. Or so I’ve read.

I believe my 1959 Ferrari 250 GT PF coupe cost new about 14,500. I believe a Rolls about then was about 20K. The 14,500 is what I paid for it in about 1990. In solid but patinaed condition. I borrowed half of it using by 82 300TD as collateral and got a partner for the other half.

Post Old Ferrari 250's

I've been told those are not well ventilated making them poor drivers .

I'd be afraid to own / drive / enjoy any Ferrari I think .

My nice 1985 300TD can barely be taken for a drive without someone bothering me to sell it, S.W.M.B.O. wants me to get off my duff and fix the A/C for this Summer .

There is a guy who daily drove a GTO about ten years ago and had run it a good mileage. The maintenance on an old 250 would make the lack of ventilation a minor issue.

There is a company building from scratch all new ferraris of that era. Probably could dail drive one but it would still be a big expense.

I got my 59 running and driving but every time I drove it it seems something would go wrong. I sold it for a massive profit after twelve years of ownership.

Post one of -THOSE- vehicles

I hope at least you enjoyed it .

I've had a couple of those cars, no matter what I fixed and how good it looked, something was always going wrong with it and that killed the joy of owning it.

It's raining here and my shoulda been junked '59 VW is parked out side awaiting my beck & call .

I am leaning toward reinstalling the four webers on the engine. My Indie says he can handle the job. I'll have to get the new al calipers installed.
