Erie insurance? [considering switching to a new carrier...]
What's your service, coverages and pricing like with Erie?
Presently with Amica and Nationwide, but always shopping for paying less. .

If you are are/were veteran, or if one of your parents is/was a veteran, USAA (a private company, not government run or subsidized) is the way to go. They have been extremely nice & helpful the times we have been hit (they deal with the other insurance company if you want them to) and I am $35 a month (17-year-old male).

I shop often too. So far nobody's beaten GEICO, but I never heard of Erie. I remember asking Amica and Nationwide for quotes on the 240D and neither company would quote it because it was titled as an 84, which is what it was, and it had a european VIN.

I have Erie for everything except the MC. Good local agent, no problems ever.

MY 2 CENTS
Erie is a good company, don't know how their rates compare though. I too am a GEICO policyholder. Pretty easy to get a quote at GEICO.com or call them. This is Warren Buffett's company, or I should say Berkshire Hathaway owns GEICO. Haven't had any accidents that I've really had to use them (knock on wood) and test their customer service. I have 7 cars in total (3 Benzes...all 124's, 1 Infiniti 1994, 2 Hondas, & an Acura) and 5 drivers of which three are kids in early 20's with GEICO. FWIW, on one policy I have 2 Benzes, the Infiniti, and the '03 Honda and pay $90 per month. Going to add the third Benz to the $90 per month policy, so that policy will obviously increase from that level, but my guess is by only $10-$20 per month. One nice feature, if you have kids living out of state, like my wife and I do, you can have separate policies for them, but still have all under the GEICO umbrella and get a discount. The other Honda and the Acura are separate policies because those kids live out of state. Would have to look up the rates, but they are definitely more expensive because of the age and newness of the Honda & Acura. Hope this helps.

Geico was more than double, actually almost triple what Nationwide's quote was about 7 years ago on my truck. I then compared Geico with Nationwide's quote, and I gained greater coverage for less premium by leaving Geico for my Mercedes-Benz. Summarily, I then went to Amica with the Mercedes-Benz, and checked what my truck would be, but Nationwide's annuals are just too cheap for the truck. Amica is astronomical for full-coverage for my Mercedes-Benz IMO, but a tad cheaper since I pay one-year in advance with Amica. Nothing against Geico, but they were way out of hand on my truck, and true to the stigma of' "those companies that advertise the most heavily - are also the priciest." My advice - watch them like a hawk, EC. All insurance companies will jack rates on otherwise good customers if they can away with it, and keep your loyalty as a customer. Quote:
Thanks!

Good advice. I am also paying for my 19 year old son's car, and GEICO's rate for him has always been best. I am going to look up Erie, is it possible they are regional and unavailable in some states? Or are they agent only? They don't show up for me on those quote aggregation sites.

I heard about Amica listening to the Clarke Howard radio show out of Atlanta, Georgia, and I heard/read of Erie online somewhere by word of mouth. Geico, Allstate, Nationwide, and State Farm all advertise so much, they are the ones to watch with scrutiny to jack your rates because of you getting comfortable as a "loyal" customer. Believe me, none of them are your friend or loyal to you if you start having claims.

Yes, everything: Vehicles - '86 Corvette, '98 E300, '00 F250, '68 UNIMOG and the landlord policy on my fathers house and my "renters" insurance.

Unless their website is lying (not a good thing) doesn't look like Erie writes anything outside of the "heartland" so us sunbelters are SOL.
I have been happy with Progressive, but , as noted, their rates have been creeping up in a calculated way over the last few years of a one-way relationship. Time for an adjustment.

I bust-a-move from 'GougeCo' (Geico) to Nationwide on my truck, (as stated above) 8 +/- years ago, and they're still dirt-cheap. The 14-year old Mercedes-Benz sedan is the vehicle that IMO is astronomical. Over $800.00 annually for full-coverage, with high deductibles.

Erie and Amica may not be interested in spending the bucks it takes to advertise there. I transacted the switch from Nationwide to Amica on my Mercedes-Benz over the telephone with an Amica agent. I provided all the info the tele-rep asked for, including my DL number and my current insurance company's name and policy number. I have a hunch that if you are already insured with another carrier - then the new carrier will be happy to execute a change over the phone without any more than your need to send-in a picture of the vehicle, or a drive-by to see that your car isn't already damaged. With Amica, all I had to do was provide them with a FAX of my defensive driver's safety course completion less than 3 years old to get the defensive drivers discount. If you have no insurance in place, then they may need to see the vehicle in person.
