The 14-year old Mercedes-Benz sedan is the vehicle that IMO is astronomical. Over $800.00 annually for full-coverage, with high deductibles.
I recently spoke with an Insurance agent who spilled his guts on how THEY do things. Seems they like bonds a lot more than insurance. They post a driving bond with the state and pocket the savings. And the savings, he said, are SUBSTANTIAL over the "month-to-month" GECKO plan. Granted, if he is in an accident there is no coverage for his car, but he drives carefully and enjoys keeping his money.

Good info.

As far as carrying full-coverage on a vehicle as aged as my Mercedes-Benz - that may not be worth any more than $5K +/- totalled to the insurance company - it may not be worthwhile carrying more than liability coverage on it.

It's been my experience that you generally get better quotes if you go through an independent agent versus dealing direct. I used to deal with Geico and Progressive directly, and thought I was getting better pricing, because it was cheaper than Allstate. However, my agent was able to save me about $2000 a year by having me go with Mercury, and my deductible was cut way down in the process.
