re: agendas - What about Wells Fargo ?

In case you missed it: Wells Fargo is going to "test market" charging a fee for anyone that has an ATM card. If you have a checking/savings account with them in one of their "test" states, you will be charged $3 a month for the priviledge of having an ATM card: regardless of your use of that card or their machines!!

They want YOU to make up for the fees they lost when the government put a restriction on the excessive fees they charge for their accounts. What are the chances that the other banks will follow Wells Fargo if this new scam is successful?

You might want to investigate your local credit union, and move any savings/checking account you have with a big bank into the credit union. They are member owned, pay only the staff and members, and should have free ATM's.

In addition, you will be keeping the money within YOUR community and it will be put to use there.

BofA recently began charging a 3.00 per month fee for photocopying your checks. ( I guess that means sending you a monthly paper statement? or just for including the miniature check copies?)
Memo to self: go ask for a fee reversal.

I won't pay for the privelige of having a debit card. Waive it or I'm gone.

I cancelled my Whack-off-'ya accounts two years ago, before Wells Fartco absorbed them. With good reason. It seems like some of the masturbatory culture and poor service (30 minute phone waits vs generally less than a minute for my Chase personal and business accounts) of Wachovia has infected Wells Fargo. Hopefully they'll go bankrupt in the next year and the gov't will be too broke to bail them out. #therenowIsaidit

Funny I worked with a Bank decades ago, one of the early ATM deployments.

They were done to save money, NOT as profit centers.

Perhaps banks are following the airlines lead. Deregulated, free market.

Nah, they're becoming MORE regulated (credit cards), so they have charge fees in areas that remain unregulated (ATM cards).

Won't bother me a bit since I don't use and ATM card. But it's a convenience and with that comes the ability to charge a premium for it. Time will tell if that was the right decision.

Fortunately it's relatively easy to change banks to one with policies you can live with. I moved from a big national to my local credit union several years ago and have never regretted it, other than their hours aren't quite as convenient.

I have often wondered when banks would start taking a fee for from your account when you take cash from retailers when you use a debit card to pay for retail purchases. I do this all the time.

SunTrust mysteriously stopped mailing check copies with statements last month. I say mysteriously because the lady on the phone hadn't a clue about how my account got changed. Doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

No, but this may be saving you some money.

I can print both sides from my on-line account anyway. Why I need to see it in the statement too I can't say.
How many times do you really need to show proof of payment. Once every year or two. Maybe.

Large banks are usually pretty bad, I only deal with local ones and credit unions.

Chase and HSBC have been reasonably OK in my experience.

Truly couldn't care less, since I pay off every month 90% of the time
