READ THE FINE PRINT. Make sure you have a 30 day trial period and can cancel with no issues. They buy it and try it.

How it works is hard to say. I used to have Cingular and it in Madison, it was kinda OK. OTOH, when I switched to USCC, I could go 2 floors underground and call for Pizza. In other areas it isn't as good as that but overall pretty decent. I think it depends on the area. So, if you can return it in 30 days, what have you got to lose?

Maybe even see if you can cop a feel with the hottie or better yet, boink her.

Wish me luck guys, I'm going to read the fine print and bite the bullet.

Thanks for the help and kudos to Med Mech for alerting me to what should have been obvious to me: it's 3G (Third Generation) now. I can hardly believe the deal. It's likely to be as good as the Verizon or AT&T 3G card, and they go for $60 a month, 2 year contract, limited usage.

San Fran is pretty much the Tmobile testing ground the 3G is more like 3G ver. 3.5. I'm not sure what frequency the use in San Fran but it should be adequate to penetrate the walls of your hippie hideout but like all other cellular carriers they have deadspots just hope that its not your living room or the room with the bean bags.

Is it powerful enough to pierce a foil hat?

God! You Guys! Cmac is asking for help!!! Is this a "roast" I rolled into???

LMAO!

Hey, cmac...Aklim has a handle (and then some) on the contract aspect...give it a 30-day spin...you know when, where and why you need the cellphone...take it for a walk down Barstow street or ride it out to Alcatraz...or shine the light from the handset on some friends in the Haight/Ashbury district...

Whether it works for you or not will be where you are in relationship to THEIR TOWERS or cell-headends. If they have a decent network that has all the kinks worked out...look at what you just found!

But, like everything, if it becomes too popular, then everyone will be using it at the same time and the whole system will get bogged down...

GL finding the one!

My hippie hideout is a very lively place, signal wise, I'll have you know. On the coverage map I'm maybe 50 yards or less from a boundary to the second best reception area but I'm getting the full bars and I can load pages on the phone itself pretty fast. Phone call usage and signal so far is first rate.

At first I didn't like the phone, I'm thinking, 'oh yeah, that's why the deal is so good,' but it's growing on me. In some ways, way better than my old Moto, in other ways weaker.

I'm going to try to get the tethering thing running. One reason they give unlimited web usage I think is, the data port jack-hole for the computer link-in is the same one needed for recharging. Oops. Can't be charging the battery while I'm using the phone as a modem. Maybe I can buy a near dead phone with the same battery and keep a charged battery handy. Oh well.

The contract allows a 14 day spin. That will be plenty.

The one thing that pisses me off about this phone, and it's not that major, is that unlike my previous Moto V710, I cannot enter a 'wait' feature between the first number, the phone number, and a second extension sort of number.

It was real handy to check my credit card situation -- I had the customer service number and 'w' character followed by my 16 digit account number -- they'd say 'please enter your account number, and I'd hit the button to send the next number, and the rapid fire bee-dee-beeps of my card number would go flying in.

I'd trade a whole bunch of other features for that one.

If that's the worst objection I find, might not be too bad.

That is a popular feature.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have some sort of workaround for that.

Can't hurt to call the 800 number and ask.

You mean just enter a comma after the first number? I'll give it a try. However, oh crap, I jumped too soon. I called T mobile tech support and they said they don't support the Sony Ericcson TM506 for use as a modem. Said it works with the Blackberries and I forget, another brand.

Radio Shack and the T-mobile store nearby are going to have some splainin' to do. And I was just starting to like the phone. I guess I must have "rube" rubber stamped in red on my forehead.

I might even keep it, not sure, my minutes deal is way better for the same price than what I had with Verizon. Maybe I can wheedle some kind of break in price out of Radio Shack for my trouble and emotional anguish.

Hmmm thanks for the tip but I can't get the page to load. I went to Bing, did the search for howardforums thinking their link might work better but no luck. I thought I'd see if anyone else had heard about the Sony E. phone and the phony modem offer.

Radio shack is sorta on the fringe of respectability anyway.

I'll do it tomorrow. Some small glitch no doubt.
