both my cars have one, granted the US version is much better designed and doesnt slip over the top of the radiator. makes radiator removal a real pain.

just looked, i have one total engine shot but the oil cooler location is just outside of the pic...

its right on the left side of the radiator, a tall and skinny aluminum radiator.

ive never traced the lines but now that i think about it the US oil cooler is more of a reservoir underneath the air cleaner intake.

If I ever get a W123, I'd probably want a M110 powered one. I have enough diesels....I'd want the awesome motor to have some fun.

I've ridden quite a bit in a 280te....even with 177k on it, it had massive torque and pulled the car to 100+ with ease.

Most common W123's were 200's, 230's, 200D, 240D. 280, 280E were top of the line for W123's. 300D turbo surely was only available in the wagon. I don't remember 300D's

The 230's were very quick 4cyl, esp. since they mostly came standard with 5-speed manual trannies.

200, 200D, 230, 230E, 240D, 250, 280, 280E, 300D, 300D Turbo.

Tranny options depended heavily on what part of the world you were in. I had a 4spd manual 200, my brother a 4 spd auto 200. An uncle of ours had 4 spd manual 240D followed by a 4 spd auto 300D. Another uncle had a 4 spd manual 230 followed by a 4 spd manual 230E. Cousin of mine had a 4 spd auto 280E. This was all back in South Africa over a period of a decade or three. There was never a 5 spd manual tranny offered in SA.

Not many people drive that much, so such comparisons are difficult. It also depends on how you drive and maintain your vehicle. I've seen many ads for OM616/7's-powered cars whose engines have been rebuilt and they were fairly low-mileage cars.
