The Hangover, Mercedes-rific!

I just saw "The Hangover" last night and I didn't think I was going to like it but it was really funny and it had a classic Mercedes in it. It was the exact same model as the blue one on the peachparts homepage.

Heart dropping things happen to the Mercedes but I won't say anymore

It's a great movie, really funny. Anyone else see it? Know the model of the Mercedes?

I read that they had two Mercedes, one that was all messed up and another that was all perfect. There was a night where the cars were sitting in a lot waiting the next day of filming and someone actually stole the messed up one!!

The next day there was traffic in downtown Las Vegas and it ended up being the police recovering the stolen Mercedes. lol pretty crazy.

It is a W111 Cabriolet, very rare. And from what I read, they used five of them to make the movie, and destroyed them. I'm hoping that was a dirty rumor, because that's a huge waste of a classy and very hard-to-find car. Even one in lousy condition would be worth restoring or using parts from to restore another w111 cabrio.

That has to be a nasty rumor because you'd have to be not all there to destroy such a classic, even if you don't know the value of it. I just read they used two, the immaculate one and then they had one messed up. Hopefully they didn't mess up a nice one on purpose.

My boss went with us to the movies to see it yesterday, and I was asking my buddy "how much do you think it would cost to fix the damage on the Mercedes" and my boss replies "Just torch it and collect the insurance money" I just shook my head.

It was cool that it was in the movie though, it sent a message to me that you can still have a good time in these cars, not just take 'em out for a 10 minute drive then garage them immediately. Not so much of a good time to where you damage it, but yeah... I like to have fun in my 220

Not in LA they're not. From Century City Plaza to the Polo Lounge of the Beverly Hills Hotel to the Palm Springs Tennis Club, they are all over the place.

Cars like that are no big deal down there, they are occasionally refered to as "Beverly Hills Volkswagens"

Easy for you to go and to pick one up.

Wow really? That's awesome, I want one! The most i've seen in Palm Springs is loads of w123's and w124's and w201's and some late 90's s-classes

that was a really funny movie. based on the budget, there's no way they had any more than two of those cars.

every time i hear about california and mercedes related topics, it just sounds more and more unreal. cabriolets, amg specimens, pagodas, no rust, etc. etc.

i can go weeks without seeing another W123 or W126. i saw a beat to ***** '80's 190D the other day and got excited. there's no appreciation for a well taken care of W123 either, no one even seems to take notice. and on the occasions i see one, it's always been converted, the interior is shredded, they barely know about mercedes cars, let alone that they actually OWN one, and the person driving it is stoned out of their gourd and smells bad.

To put your minds further at ease:

On ebay, there is listed a 280SE billed as the one from the movie. Looks to be true. But this is the clever part;

It's not a real 280SE cabrio. There is no top. They cut the roof off a Coupe. Which was in poor enough shape to have the seats redone in vinyl and the dash wood *repainted*. Even says so in the ad.

So, back in reality, there's no way they ruined 5 cherry 3.5 droptops- more like 1 cabrio and 1 *really* past its prime Coupe...

Go search for it on ebay motors, I saw it two days ago...

As I said, it was probably a dirty rumor ... that's the internet, baby. As discussed in another thread, it would have made a lot more sense (budget-wise and posterity-wise) to use some more "regular" cars that looked like the cabrio from various angles. I suspect that's what they actually did.

I still think it's a bit of an old gag ... cherry (insert pricy luxury or sports car) someone borrowed from their (insert figure of authority here) gets wrecked during a wild adventure. That said, the rest of the movie looks pretty original, so I'd like to see it ... probably not for the $14 theater ticket, though.

If I read correctly this one was actually a replica....

Now what was the one with the Rolls Royce.....

You should, it's pretty funny 14$ ticket? :/ Damn..... If you go during the day here it's 5$ and this is in California! 10$ at night though
