I would like to be present to witness such an historical event, but the amount of security, crowding, inconvenience, etc. etc that one would encounter is just more than I could put up with.

All the bridges into Washington are going to be closed tomorrow. You can bet the buses and subways will be packed tighter than sardines in a can. This is the most momentous inauguration we've seen yet, I would venture to say.

WTF is wrong with just swearing the guy in and then going to ****** work?

It's the underlying denial of private property rights that has his shorts in a knot.

In fact, the more I think about it, Botnst, the more I think you have it completely backwards. The public "spectacle", as you call it, was one of the best things about yesterday's concert. We had a similar public spectacle about a week or two before the election when Obama showed up in our town and drew a crowd of 30,000 or so with almost no publicity at all. There are people around here whose faces brighten just at the mention of that day. It was a very positive event

You say that we are spending like drunken sailers. What did yesterday's events cost the taxpayers? What economic benefits flowed from yesterday's events? I have no idea of the answer to either question.

Private property is a good thing except when it's not, IMO. Europeans are way envious of our Nat. Parks system cuz most all the really nice land over there is bound up in private estates.

I mean, I wouldn't want some fool barging into my shop complaining about me hoarding all my private property but nor do I like the idea of increasingly private beaches, lakes, etc. In OlyWA, one of the nicest little swimming lakes I know of is now off limits to the general public. I first swam in it in 1960 on a visit there with my mother (her home-town) and it had been a public swimming hole for decades prior.

No more.

BTW, on the copyright infringement raised by HBO, a friend just told me that many of the broadcast rights were sold in order to allay costs.

Bot doesn't complain about drunken sailor spending on warfare. Now or in the 60s/70s.

Private property rights are one of the cornerstones of America, for both moral and pragmatic reasons, but sometimes things get out of whack. We need people like Pete Seeger to remind us that not everybody has it as easy as we do. America takes all kinds of folks.

Seeing and hearing about dead middle easterners and Mexicans makes a lot of people in this country glow with joy as well. That's why principles and values are the core of this country's founding and not you're hippie worship fest and their warmongering death cults.

I'm in favor of some kinds of private property rights too. I'm not enamored with the idea of sharing my underwear with anybody.

And you see that as a fair comparison?

Did someone suggest that yesterday's hippie worship fest was "the core of this country's founding"?

So, I guess it was just a random thought on your part. How odd.

Talk about random thoughts....

Well, when discussing current government corruption, I'd say the origins of said government, and it's intentions, are valid.

I watched the whole show on HBO last night and thought 90% of it was excellent! Some of the speakers didn't do much for me, and when Joe Biden got up and yelled it made me laugh, but the whole thing was quite uplifting. I really thought the lady who sang the duet with Jon Bon Jovi stole the show though, she gave me cold chills! I wish I could remember her name, can anyone help me out there?
