Our surge looks like it may have maxed-out at 9 ft. Still bad for the village of Cameron, but about 6 ft less than Rita & Audrey. 40 - 50 kt winds rising, pressure falling.

Bartlet: I know it's hard to believe, but I prayed for wisdom.

Father Cavanaugh: And none came?

Bartlet: It never has. And I'm a little pissed off about that.

Father Cavanaugh:You know, you remind me of the man that lived by the river. He heard a radio report that the river was going to rush up and flood the town. And that all the residents should evacuate their homes. But the man said, “I’m religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me.”

The waters rose up. A guy in a row boat came along and he shouted, “Hey, hey you! You in there. The town is flooding. Let me take you to safety.” But the man shouted back, “I’m religious. I pray. God loves me. God will save me.”

A helicopter was hovering overhead. And a guy with a megaphone shouted, “Hey you, you down there. The town is flooding. Let me drop this ladder and I’ll take you to safety.” But the man shouted back that he was religious, that he prayed, that God loved him and that God will take him to safety.

Well... the man drowned. And standing at the gates of St. Peter, he demanded an audience with God. “Lord,” he said, “I’m a religious man, I pray. I thought you loved me. Why did this happen?” God said, “I sent you a radio report, a helicopter, and a guy in a rowboat. What the hell are you doing here?” [pause]

He sent you a priest, a rabbi, and a Quaker, Mr. President. Not to mention his son, Jesus Christ. What do you want from him?

Nice!

There's one dude down in Surfside, TX who won't leave his home. He's stayed on his porch saying that he won't leave. Now, it has NOT rained yet, but the storm surge is starting to come in, and they can't get out to the guy. They're getting pissed because now folks are saying "rescue me PLEASE!!!" After they had nearly a week of preparation time, days to evacuate, now they want out. They want other folks to put their lives in danger because they were too stupid to heed warnings. Now, they're stuck on roofs, and the winds are too high to send in rescue teams. Advice to them from officials? Write your social security number in black permanent marker on your arm so they can I.D. your body after the storm.

H-town - are you on the west side or east side of Houston? Looks like it may be getting bad there soon. Do you have generators? I heard that power outages as far inland as Houston are likely and NWS has forecasted winds to be as high as 80mph!

Hope all is well there. Hunker down and be safe!

WRONG!

It has started back to rising at the Calcasieu Ship Channel at Cameron. It is at about 11 ft MLLW. I think Audrey had 13 ft and Rita had 17 ft. I could be off a couple feet on those hurricanes. This one may get there. Damn.

Ut oh.... winds are already gusting to 60 mph in parts of Houston... may have lost power already. I know around here, if we had 60 mph winds, all of the lines would be crashed.

As of 10:57 pm, I'm still with power. Winds have picked up slightly, a little bit of rain too, BTW, I'm reporting 2-3 miles south of downtown Houston.

Hell, I'm in metro St Louis, and they are planning for 5-6 inches of rain this weekend, due to the storm, and are planning for localized flooding along the Meramec River, becuase the ground is alraedy saturated. Amazing how big this storm is, hope everyone is safe.

G-Benz, I had to laugh that your games were on today, our baseball games for today got cancelled last evening, because some genius decided we were going to get dumped on over night due to the storm, and we must be 500+ miles away...I'll look on google maps and see how far from the coast we really are.

Holy cow, I'm 882 miles from Houston, and we're supposed to start getting rain this evening from the storm.

H Town is powerless. I got power back around 4 PM CDT today.

http://www.centerpointenergy.com/newsroom/stormcenter/ike/0af9097a7e25c110VgnVCM1000005a1a0d0aRCRD/

I'm one of 112,000 people that got power restored, out of 2.27 Million people.

Theres still 1.99 MILLION people without power in Houston.

You were on the western side of the eye path, the "good" side. Orange and Port Arthur got hit very hard, though the news is all about Galveston & Houston. Not to say that metro area doesn't deserve the news. I'll bet Koontz and Cleveland got pretty roughed-up, too.
