OMG, it IS Wednesday again, isn't it? It's a very nice day here today, should be in the seventies and sunny all day. Fortunately, the rain and cold will be back by the time the weekend rolls around again . . .

My annual physical is this afternoon. Hopefully, everything is still working as it's supposed to and I have nothing more to worry about than my doctors big finger . . .

my new albatross

Picked up another car I don't need but will be working on it today, a "fixer" 1996 Toyota Corolla

After 30 years I am trying to learn to drive manual again, kind of fun now I am getting the hang of it, except when I stall out at traffic signals.

First pic's when I got it here yesterday. Lifetime local auto, very interesting story of how I got it, and why, but it is the nastiest dirty thing I ever saw, major detail job ahead, odo rolled to 146,000 last night, and it runs great.

I'm so happy this morning! I thought it was Thursday all the way to work only to realize it's only Wednesday. Woohoo!

I went to see David Baldacci last night and got a copy of his new book, True Blue. It's pretty good. He is a helluva nice guy.

Then, I bought a straight razor. That's going to be a challenge! I'm determined to learn how to use that thing. At the next GTG I'll be the guy with all of the bloody bandages wrapped around my face . . .

Just read Jim B's little ditty on how he acquired his "new albatross" last week (Post # 1548, here) back on OD under Had an accident, but handled it differently (pic's included)...

I was going to ask, last week, what the story was, but I had this feeling you were good for it!

Nice job! Glad no one was hurt.

After your description of the interior...it makes me take stock of my situation...I, now, want to make sure I leave nothing in the car that would give anyone the wrong impression of what I was about or how I behaved. (I'm somewhat of a "packrat" (not the newspaper/cat collector style you read about in the papers or hear about on the TV/Radio) and I do need to keep the vehicle a little more clean than I usually do...)

Thanks for the visual/written reminder Jim B.!

BTW: This Saturday, it's "FREAKFEST" in Madison, WI.. Bring your friends and self, costume up (leave the swords and weapons of fake destruction in the car-I'll be among the few confiscating such items) and come on down to State Street for a multi-stage event of creepy proportions! Food and Drinks will be served, just leave your goodies in the car...no carry-ins! Somewhere, there's a list of bands playing and it should be an interesting evening, to say the least. It's Madison (or Madtown, for you hippies from the 70s!)

What a difference a week makes. Last Wednesday this was my "work" view:

This week back at work:

Now I really don't enjoy the heat and humidity. But nothing like 40's and rainy to think the alternative might just have its merits.

Had a trade association meeting in Key West with other independent dealers in the golf/turf industry. Some unpleasant subjects were covered, not the least of which is how much longer and flatter any recovery is probably going to be. That said, after hearing how hard some of these other owners had been hit with the current economy I wasn't quite as bummed by where we're sitting right now.

Nothing exciting today, just working on my spring pricelists. More price increases in the vegetable and flower seed world.

And it would appear that H1N1 has finally hit our house. Oldest son has been showing symptoms. They don't even bother testing for it anymore, it's assumed that it's what it is and they treat it accordingly. Kinda worried about my middle son (w/Ds) catching it but not much we can do outside of keeping them away from each other and constantly cleaning. The pediatricians office had 160 calls yesterday for flu-like symptoms. The good news is that the doc's are saying that the symptoms haven't been a long or as bad as they were expecting.

The company lawn we try to keep looking decent (but surprisingly low maintenance), don't look at any of our home lawns though!

And, no. The rate I'm going it's going to be next week before I get an appt. I've got 75% of the kids home sick from school with various stomach, fever, and coughing issues (started Tues with the first and progressed through) so I've been playing errand boy and chauffeur between actual work work.

I did follow Evan's advice and polished them with Crest toothpaste and got them so that they're very tolerable.

Hmmm, Hump Day again, and here I am busily bustin' mine . . .

I did have some fun earlier, turning away the people who showed up late for the interviews we're having this morning. It's funny to hear the excuses people make for being late to things. I was reminded of John Belushi's lines from The Blues Brothers when Carrie Fisher confronted him about leaving her standing at the altar on their wedding.

Sigh, it's "plumber's day" for me. I'm installing a compressed air line at my shop. Step ladder, over my head, 90 degree day in the sun kind of fun. But, it beats what else I have on my schedule. After work, over to a friend's house to finish out busting the concrete floor in a hallway closet so the plumber can see to inspect a leaking water supply line. 4" thick slab so its not too bad. Run the saw with a concrete blade, drill about 20 holes, bust a section loose using the jackhammer, scoop out as much underlying soil as possible and start all over again. Of course, since it's inside the closet there isn't enough room to use a REAL concrete saw and do it all in one go!

The ONLY good thing about it is the fact my buddy is in the hospital/recuperating home for another week so he doesn't have to try to live without water. It's costing him PLENTY in beer though!

Woo-Hoo! It IS a "happy hump day"! I just got off the phone with the plumber and he told me not to waste my energy removing more concrete. The old copper supply line is trashed and the entire plumbing system is corroded beyond repair.

He ain't BS'ing me on this because I've seen it. Nasty looking copper oxidation (the green fuzzy kind) around every fitting and coupling, lines have been randomly hacked into, an outdoor faucet run from an inside bathroom out THROUGH the roof, over and BACK through the roof down the outside wall, someone added another bathroom and just tapped into the 3/8" water feeds from the sink for the shower, etc. My buddy bought this house for a song a couple of years ago and it doesn't appear to have been a "happy" song!

He's going to re-plumb the entire house for $5600! Suhweet! He starts on it tomorrow! He's installing two handicapped access toilets for free because he forgot to put their labor costs in the estimate. Ka-ching!

Now, it's a matter of replacing all the crap drywall in the bathrooms and hallway closets. Can't do that until the plumber is done so I've got a few days reprieve.

Today is a contract creation day. Not much more mind numbing in this job than that. Friend suggested I make it more fun by writing in pig latin .

Should come as no surprise, the world wide interweb has LOTS of English to pig latin translators. So, for your enjoyment, I give you Section 6.1 Part F Sub-paragraph (i):

Nope, seems perfectly clear, like most of the conflicting instructions I receive from any of the 200 people who are either, apparently, my bosses or at least think they are.
