-88 SL 560, experience with 16 inch wheels/rims

Hi,
consider to buy 16*8 in front and 16*9 in rear.
Before I buy will I check if someone have bad experience with this setup? Are the rims to wide, will it ruin the driving experience?

And, will e.g 225/55 in front and 245/55 rear be okay, still considering the driving feeling?

Thanks in advance

Rgds Erik

Heavier wheels and tires will negatively impact ride and handling, but if you drive it mostly around at moderate speeds you'll prolly think it is fine.

Thanks walgamuth. Will the same apply for 17", or is that too much?

The weight is what matters.

I probably would not go to 17".

The outside diameters of the proposed tires will be OK.
The tire widths, particularly in the rear, will require careful attention to wheel offset (ET).

Driving experience/driving feeling are subjective characteristics, and can be evaluated only by the driver.

If you change the profile or the rear tire to 50 (245/50R16), you'll get a closer match as far as rolling radius..

Width Profile Rim Diameter Diameter
225 55 16 653.9mm
245 50 16 651.4mm

I suggest not going over 16" rims on an R107. I had the OZ 17" 3PC wheels on my 500SL and it rode pretty badly with them on.
