Idle problem
Ok another question on an idle problem.
I have a 86 500sl(european)and I have intermittant idle problems. It run fine at times and then later in the day, it will have the high idle (2000). When it is running fine, I can take the plug off the idol control valve and it will speed up, when it is running high, removing the wire from the valve does not change the idle at all. I guess that the question I have is, do I need to replace this valve, or could it be another componet. The come and go of this problem is confusing me. |

The idle relay sends basically a frequency signal to the valve, which you can measure as voltage. The more voltage, the lower the idle. If the idle is going to 2000, the the valve is probably not getting any power at all. This could be a faulty idle relay, or maybe the relay that provides power to the idle relay.
