If I remember right, only 4 or 6 cylinder engines will have equal exhaust pulses where any 4 into 1 or Y configuration on a V-8 will not unless you cross one header tube from each side bank to bank. Did Mercedes ever make a flat plane V-8? I don't remember if this is an issue on a flat plane V-8 or not.

Sorry excuse me. Yes tubular headers. Which traditionally look like long tubes. Also none of these V8’s will have equal pulses unless they are flat plane. That’s why there are x pipes or h pipes.

Gentlemen
I didn't mean to open a can of worms. Perhaps it's a verb not a noun ? "Try Y" headers ? A marketing phrase ? Maybe something in the translation ? |

I think a Try-Y is just another name for a 4-2-1 header. The V8 108's/111's and early 107's have them but the DS is 1 piece with internal 4/2/1 passages due to the firing order and not 2 piece like the PS. Much better than the logs of later smog V8's.
