looks like a nice car but the gasser mbs arent that great. I spend more time wrenching on my gasser then driving it. I do routine maintaince work on the diesels and i can enjoy the car instead of wrenching on it a lot.

I've had several 124s, gas and diesel, they each have their charm. Me? I'll give up the 100hp advantage of the M104 for a couple of MPG and the soft clatter of another diesel Mercedes even at the higher cost of diesel fuel. Besides, find a really straight diesel '95 with under 150k miles for under $6500 and you've found a bargain, and a non-turbo.

Most of the maintenance I've done on my Mercedes over the past 15years has been items other than the engines (brakes, CCU, antennas, suspension, etc.) and regular maintenance items on the engines. The diesels win on lower maintenance IMO, but not by a huge margin. I just like diesels, cars/trucks/motorcoaches/boats, I'm an addict.

Man, you and Skid Row Joe are really starting to make me think I really did well buying my '95.
While I'd like to believe that, I think yall are a bit optimistic on these cars value.
On the other hand, after driving mine for awhile, I'd pay more for one than I did for mine.
And I'm sorry, but every day there is somebody having electrical or electronic issues with their OM606 powered W210's. To me that even adds value to the OM606 W124.
And this W124 chassis sure would be fun with about 100 more gasser hp, so there is something to be said for that.....

Maybe I'm a little high, but it seems that they all have 200k or more miles, the driver's seat and zebrano wood are rough, and it has other issues.

You're right about the extra hundred-hp gasser, I've got three of the M104-powered ones, it is easy to get used to. I'm finding myself sitting on the boat with the engines idling at dockside lately, diesels make me smile (especially at 1300hp). Time to go diesel Mercedes again, even if it's only 150hp.

Are you going to try to tune it up a bit? Or just leave it at the stock 150 hp. I remember seeing a few posts that you made about making a hybrid .960/.970

It has a 22 head, a 55-trim turbo, and the 3.5L IP. I'm working on an aftercooler but nothing yet.

Not looking for big horsepower, but I would like to have around 200hp available without significantly impacting engine life or dependability.

My experience with Toyotas have been towards the negative. They charge a fortune for parts compared to MB, they drive like a soul-less tin can, and are ugly. My in-laws have been dealing with the evil 2002 Rav4 for a while now, and they're trying to get rid of it. (Fatal transmission issue plagues that year/model)

Our gasser MB has been much more reliable than their Rav4 has, and theirs only had 89k when they bought it. It now has 105k and is on its second transmission. My 300E is rolling on to 139k soon with 0 issues, and lately its been getting even better MPG's... (almost 23!)

I just came off about an 8 year run with a Toyota Sienna minivan, and it simply ran better than any vehicle I've ever owned. Only thing that ever broke was a rear shock [seal blew out at about 150K] At almost 160K when we sold it it was still on its original timing belt. Fit and finish were very good also, and I really like Toyota's leather. A nice soft tight leather!
I certainly know many many more folks happy with Toyota's than not. Matter of fact, much like Honda's, I've never known anybody who wasn't happy with their Toyota.
Sure, some folks have gotten a lemon here or there, but their good rep is well deserved.
So, having said that, somebody buy that really nice W124!!!

My 1999 Solara has 210,000 miles and has never had nothing. My 1995 Tercel has 140,000 miles and has had nothing. Toyota's are great cars. They don't have the character a Mercedes has but they are uber reliable.

True dat. My oldest daughter drove the 250C for high school and loved it, but it still required tinkering.

I bought this Camry for my youngest daughter about 18 months ago, and did the timing belt, and since, it's been routine fluids and filters. Bought from a friend who bought it new for his wife.

Car is about as sexy as a Toyota Camry can get. Nice leather, sunroof, kick ass sound system, and a smooooth V6 and automatic.

Does it grab me like a Benz? Afraid not, nice and competent, but not soul stirring. But perfect for when she leaves this summer for college out of state.

See I love that red Camry you have there. My Solara has never even had the AC recharged and is still as cold as ice! I can't complain about Toyota because they have been very good to us. That includes my parents Lexus they purchased new. Never a problem just change the oil and drive.

I feel like I have never seen (or probably just noticed) a Camry coupe! As boring as those cars can be, they are indeed dead reliable.
