OM606NA to upgrade fuel supply lines or not to?

The biggest question of all for me. drill in tank screen out to 12mm and run 1/2 fuel line bypassing the heater and straight to pre filter.
My diesel truck at least has a water separator and with 00 power-stroke at 380,000 and the Mercedes at 290,000.

Kinda thinking of drilling out that tank screen and upgrading the lines to engine cabin and doing a custom regulated fuel pump with a water separated filter straight to pump and a bypass before with a ball valve shut off so that switching over to oem is just a switch and a valve. seems big toys work well with this set up.

Any input?

Well Ive torn all fuel lines and the the fuel filter assembly out because of the 2 tank system in the car and am replacing all with OEM original set up so end goal is to resurrect this car after sitting 6 years and have it run as best as it can and with times changed and all just a little more effort at this time wont hurt.

Fuel starvation at any point for any reason is unacceptable for me at this point and is about the only drastic thing I want out of it.

From what I recalled the car was hard to start but ran out nice once warmed up and sounds great at 80mph.

Hard to start was 4 bad glow plugs and 3 good injectors with one being a total pisser.

This far in with no return and don't mind upgrading while doing this task is all!

Read other articles where some felt the fuel system was lacking and hope to hear from someone who has increased the flow with less resistance and found it to be worth wild upgrade.

Totally surprised that such a fine automobile does not have any water separator but apparently the OM606 will use just about anything for fuel and shoot broken bolts from it's arse and keep going.

The idea that a flow through fuel pump seems to have helped old diesels with worn supply pumps and injector pumps from my understanding also gives some oomph on uphill battles trying to pass a tanker.

I have this engine and find no problem with the fuel system, although a hand primer would be nice. The lack of a turbo is definitely a problem, but it is less of a problem the older I get. I would recommend that you put it back to stock and only fix things that are broken.

I will most likely use the electric fuel pump I have laying around to bleed system before trying to start but also heard of leaving one installed just for priming the system when you crack open with the pros of some using it and cons of it being another failure point in the system. In which a ball valve bypass might work. Leaving oem was good enough for 280,000 and might be best decision

ya I don't see any problem with it and it would be cool they make plenty of kits for old diesel trucks and stuff.
