HELP.... Injection Pump disaster........
Here goes...
one day before the meet. I washed the car, polished the crap out of it and took my whole day... then I decided that I wanna increase the idle speed a little. I did the usual thing. Loosen the nut, increased the idle and tighten the nut. I heard a loud snap and I broke my idle speed adjuster. It's not the pin that broke. It's that part that holds the pin.... it seems like it's a built in part of the injection pump. Maybe not.. I hope it's not. Now I have to get the car towed to a shop.... what a great thing! Am I really looking at a new injection pump? Is it my only option? I bet the labor costs are going to kill me as well.... ................I don't know what to say.... I really don't know what to do... Is there a way to alter the linkage somewhat? I don't give a damn if I can't shut the engine off with the emergency engine shut off lever. At least I can drive it to the shop and get that new injection pump... Just when I thought NOTHING could go wrong.... I wanna take a pic of the broken part but my digi cam isn't working and I am not interested to find out why.... my internet's acting up... what a day...

Spend the $50 and take this to your tech, tell him your story and ask him to install it.
Sorry to hear of the misfortune http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1833390272&r=0&t=0

sigh.. I guess that's my only option. $50 sounds good though. However, I hope the injection pump is not out of tune. Mine was working so well....
I also need the car to be working by Saturday... I have a week to fix an injection pump.. this is great. I wonder if it could just be welded on. I guess not...

That was a very good buy. And just when you needed it... your luck is improving.... I saw it and was thinking about getting it just as a backup to keep my shelves from floating off the floor... like an anchor... I am glad you got it.. I need to save my money for things I actually need... but it was such a good price..... Greg

Do you guys think a mechanic who knows what he's doing could fix it up in a day? and set the injection pump timing as well?
Does the engine need to be lifted out of the car for an IP install? I'm gonna try and ask the seller to 2-day or overnight the injection pump to me just because I need to have the car running like it is now before Saturday! don't ask why.. I wonder what I'm gonna do with my Injection Pump. I think I'm gonna disassemble it, clean it and learn how it works... maybe I'll make my own diesel engine one day... OM618 maybe 3.6L I-6 Turbodiesel.. :p

well, I'll clean it up take it apart then maybe i'll put it up for sale.
As a 'amateur-rebuilt' broken injection pump..... I still feel very stupid.... wonder what is going to happen next.... maybe I just wasn't meant to go to NJ... sigh I was soo lookin forward to it. BTW, I fooled the linkages. I put a bumper between the stop lever and the engine block and extended the arm that connects the stop lever and another lever on the IP. Well it works! At least I can drive it to the shop instead of having to get a tow truck to tow it.

It should not take anyone long at all to remove/replace the injection pump and make sure it is at the correct "timing" position. I figure I could do it in 5 hours and I work real slow. The easy part is setting the timing.
Oh yea - if anyone ever needs one I have an IP for a 240D holding down my shelf and have even been considering to take it apart to learn a little more about them.

well the injection pump arrived in a José Cuervo box. I thought someone was being nice to me by sending me bottles of tequila... Then I could smell diesel fuel/oil instead of tequila... I guess not.
That's the IP! What is the white plastic thing on top of the injection pump in the back? Is the vacuum shut-off the silver tube behind the injection pump above the rack damper pin/bolt? I think I'm going to swap the vacuum related parts from my current IP to this one just because I think my vacuum system works perfectly. I hope the ALDA is not badly adjusted... BTW, why is my hand primer pump different to this one? Mine has a top that unscrews before I could pump it. Is this the older version? BTW, I need the car by saturday because I wanna pick up some people from the airport who are coming to visit me. They have been hearing me praise this old car more than anything.. so it'd kinda suck u know.. :p Thanks -Holson-
