That light on top of the fender just behind the headlight would typically indicate that this might be a 219 or a 220 rather than a 190. Our 1961 190Db has the turn signal below the head light and the 'park' lite just in front of the windshield on the upper out side of the fender.

However, from an entry in the MBZponton.org site, it appears that this behind the headlight location was a German after-market addition not particularly sanctioned for the 190 by Mercedes. Interesting, and apparently unusual.

Even sadder is that whoever sold that got maybe $400, Craigslist would have found a good home quickly and at a much higher price. Terrible shame please tell me a rescue party is in the works?

I am going to talk to the owner about other stuff but don't have time to restore it. It looked reasonably complete but everything would need to be refurbished. The wood in the dash was there and hanging in pieces.

Let's hear quick practical ideas. Also, if I get it and have it dropped at my house in the woods, how much can I safely spend and get my money back? I don't have Vstechs problems with codes but there is no point in moving it and letting it rust. (That isn't all paint, a lot of at least surface rust.)

From the safety of my office chair, I'd opine that if you research the actual model/vintage and get a handle on what you might get for it 'as-is' (buyer pays towing/shipping of course) and you can come out ahead $-wise and save it from the crusher, then, more power to ya !


P.S. folks like in the link might go for it 'as-is". Folks do buy cars in that condition when they are 'rare' (no longer made) and sell able once restored.

If it's got a wood dash, then it's a 220S. Other models were bakelite except for maybe a wooden strip along the windshield.

Give us the contact number and price and someone may buy it. I'll post it on our ponton forum. Someone there is always looking for a project.
