who makes Mercedes batteries?????
I know optima batts are very good but I would like to keep a group 49 in it.
I would like to get a Bosch battery but there are no Pep Boys anywhere around in oregon I know Interstate makes a good battery, and so does the Northwest tire shop Les Schwab they are both made by Johnson Controls, and run about $180, which seems a little spendy compared to going directly to the Mercedes dealer and getting it or $ 136 is the Mercedes battery inferior to the interstate or is there just a big price gouge cuz it says interstate. I have a Napa battery in it now, it seems to have lasted for years but Napa runs Exide which I'm not too happy with. I would kinda like to have a genuine Mercedes battery in my car but if there's a better one out there for around the same price give or take 30 40 dollars I would rather have that. thanks for any input

There are only a couple people out there making batteries for everyone else.
On the cars with regular batteries under the hood, if if fits (including the terminals on the right ends) and has enough CCA and reserve amps go for it. However on the newer cars with the battery inside the passenger compartment I would only use a Genuine MB battery. These are sealed batteries with the hydrogen vent tube. You don't want hydrogen building up in the car, and if the car ever rolls you don't want the acid to spill.

I put a Mercedes AGM battery in my '96 E300, since the battery is under the rear seat and I don't want acid vapor or leaking liquid in the passenger compartment. That battery was made, IIRC, in Spain. So far it is doing very well (one year old) but was rather expensive at $215 after a 15% MBCA discount from my local dealer.

Just tagging for future reading of the replies.
I've been happy with my Duracell purchased at Batteries Plus. I can not speak to it's longevity as I've only had it a few months, but it tests WAY above it's rated output and started the diesel up just fine even after the headlights had been left on for almost two hours.

I have an AutoZone battery (sealed with Vent tube for vapors to go outside) the battery is under the R. Seat, it has been 4 years still going strong, if I recall correctly it was around $80.00.

Last time I looked (2 years ago?), the Mercedes battery was an Interstate.

I always buy Interstate batteries. I have never had a problem with one. My F250 and my grey 300SD have Interstate batteries in them.

I recently put an Autozone Duralast Gold in one of my 300D's. They did have a Group 49 one, but I got a slightly different one that looks similar (forgot #) since cheaper and more capacity I recall. I was thinking of going with a smaller battery to save weight, but no cost savings and I might need the capacity if I drive it to Tahoe. I read a lot on-line first, since buying several batteries. I was thinking of Walmart Everlast, but the lower cost doesn't justify the much poorer reviews. Read up and you will find most name brands are just names. There are only 3 or 4 manufacturers in the world.

I looked and looked and looked for Bosch, but couldn't find one around. (And I refuse to enter PepBoys)
I bought MBZ for $125 last year. Works fine. I have an old Interstate which I have around as a core for the TD I'm not yet driving. It was in my car and lasted a good 7 years. The Everstart in my car currently is awesome. It's a few years old and man that thing packs a punch. I used it to start a non running engine and it just kept turning that sucker over, worked way longer than the Interstate we had been using (not the dead one previously mentioned).

if you have AAA, their batteries are really good, although i think they're around the same price as the mercedes , although with the slight benefit they'll come out and put it in for you, saves a trip to the dealer or whatever

I have an MB battery in my 300SD, has lasted over 7 years so far, and a "Energizer" branded group 49 in my 420 which are made by Deka in PA, excellent batteries. The 190d has an autozoo battery, 3 years old and its been fine....

I was just shopping batteries, mine may be going, can't tell quite yet. Seems to be holding a charge now. It's an exide nascar thingy.
Anyway, Pepboys here has the Bosch 49's, they are $115. If you can get a OEM Mercedes batt for $136 I would do that. Hell, I would do that anyway. At the dealer you say? I though they were more like $236? Let us know what you end up with.
