Were these OE in all W116s or just some of them? I want one... .

I have only seen them in 1973 model year W116s (they seem to have gone to plastic in 1974), and 6.9s. In other words, these are very rare.

Decided to replace the brass overflow tank in the car with my spare. The original one began to seep some coolant at the seam. In addition, the finish really began to dull. I had clear coated the original one with a rattle can clear (Duplicolor two part wheel paint) and the finish just didn't hold up. I kind of half way expected this but wanted to try anyway.

Here is the new tank alongside the old one.



And here is the new one installed in the car.



I also took the opportunity to powdercoat the custom bracket as the old paint had peeled off from ongoing exposure to the coolant.
