WOW! My 300D has been hit twice in 2 days.

just yesterday evening I was pulling out of a fast food place and the lady driving a newer Lexus SUV in front of me starts a mad dash out into the intersection and while she pulled out I started to pull up then all of a sudden she realizes shes not going to make it before the traffic comes, so she shoves it into reverse and without even looking in her mirror starts backing up until she hits my car, so I get out to assess damage while she just sits in her Lexus doing nothing, I didnt see any damage to my car and she only had a couple scrapes on her bumper that im sure she wouldnt be concerned with, so I walk up to her drivers window and tell her its her lucky day, I dont see any damage to my car and without as much as a simple (Sorry about that) she says "good" and just drives off. Thats was the first assault on my car, the second came this evening while I was about to pull away from the curb outside the local auto parts store, Im in my car, vehicle running, lights on, in gear, looking in my mirror, waiting for traffic to clear so I can pull away from the curb out into the lane and as the very last car is coming up on me I let off the brakes and start to roll forward, Now, that same very last car, without any turn signal, or any noticeable loss of speed turns right in front of me into a parking lot driveway and clips the front bumper of my car and rips damn near half of it off and breaks my turn signal, So once again I get out of my car to assess damage and noticed his new Nissan pickup had none, while parts of my car are laying in the street, the first thing he says was "were you pulling forward while i was making my turn?" And I said "you never signaled" and he said neither did you" and I said, "yeah but I never turned or even made it out of my lane for that matter, I had only rolled forward no more than 5 feet before you hit me, so I said, listen to me, I have been hit twice now in 2 days, you have no damage to your truck and part of my car is laying in the street, are you really going to just leave me here? I said I have a drivers license and insurance just like you, but I dont have a lot of money (look what I drive), Im willing to work with you if youre willing to admit you were in the wrong and help me out, I can go to picknpull and find a bumper and turn signal for probably 60 bucks or so and I can put it on myself, and he thought about it for a minute and then said Okay, and gave me 60 whole U.S. dollars for ripping the front bumper off of my Mercedes Benz. I knew that if we turned it into insurance, he would most likely say he did use his turn signal and it would be my word against his and they would probably say its a 50/50 fault split, (they love that one in Oregon) thats where each party is responsible for fixing their own vehicle, and I would come out the looser in that deal, its happened to me before, or even worse they might say its my fault, either way I dont really want a accident on my driving record that could easily end up being partial my fault, so I figured I either get some money from this guy now, or I get to pay for all of fixing my car.

It was getting dark when it happened so i will post pics tomorrow.

I think some pesky kid has sneaked up behind you and clamped on a wanker magnet - that's why they're all driving into you. Take a good look round your car and see if you can find where they fitted it - you might not realise it but you have been lucky the wanker magnet could have fallen off by now...

... Im not sure, but I think the last accident could have been your fault. he was on the road, and you were attempting to enter it. right of way goes to the driver on the road. methinks...
he was stupid, and reckless but I don't think you should have been moving until after his car passed yours.

I think the insurance comp. could have looked at it that way also even though he turned into me with no signal, which he admitted to at the time, but doubtful he would admit to his insurance during questioning. I am thankful it wasnt any worse, and I was compensated a little bit and a little bit is better than nothing.

I checked around the local PnP's and there are about 10 w124's so I shouldnt have to hard of a time finding a good bumper, they want 50 bucks for a complete assmly. My question is how do I pull the bumper?!?!?! the one on my w201 190E is completly different on the way it comes off, I have no idea how to get a w124 front bumper off.

It'a simple to replace. I did mine in about a half hour a while back. Just a bolt on each side on the fender one in the very center, and a couple along the front. I think they were 10mm on the fenders and center and maybe 12 or 13 on the frame rails. Depending on where your temp sensor is, you may have to remove that from the bumper also.

Sorry for your Accidents.
The fist one was clearly not your fault.

On the 2nd one out here in CA the traffic moving down the Street has the right of way even if they turn without a Signal.

Here you are not supposed to pull away from the Curb or move until you know it is Safe; safe means the other Vehicle or People, or Bicyclist are physically far enough away from you not to make contact with you.

What that means is you wait and watch what the other Car actually does and sort of ignore working or not working turn Signals; Brake Lights and so on.
A Turn Signal on may or may not indicate that is the way someone is going to go.
No, turnsignals means you cannot assume they are going to go straight.

It sounds like both of you were in a big hurry to get someplace!

As you said in other States they assign blame differently and attribute percentages of blame.

Notice that if either of you had used your Turnsignals there might not have been an accident.

Story Tiime:
My Father had an old White 1965 Plymoth Valient Station Wagon. It was hit it must be 8 times (side swiped once) parked on the City Streets or where He worked; no witnesses.
He painted the Car Black and it was never hit again!

On My last accident I backed into a later model Mercedes. No damge to the front where I hit but someone else had parked up against them in the Rear and apparently My bump pushed the other Car to the rear and the Bolts holding down the L Plates on the Car to the Rear scratched up the Plastic Bumper Cover.
My Insurance took care of that; no issues as I only have the legal minimum insurance; no insurance money to fix My Car.

My Van Mirror took out a Heated Mirror on a SUV (narrow Streets in My Area). Despite Me leaving notes on the Windshield over several weeks that Guy never contacted Me of My Insurance Company to have it fixed????

Twice in two days. No record there. Had a buddy had 3 in one day. Hit a giant bush, hit K-Mart and a bridge abuttment... Hmmm.... now that I think about it those are all fixed objects, not like K-Mart jumped out infront of him. It all ended after he hit the bridge. Alcohol may have been involved.

Thank god it wasn't sheet metal that took the damage. Bumper damage is a shame but an easy fix it seems.

I got rear ended the other day in my 300D Sedan. Played holy he-double-hockey sticks with my trunk lid - no fixing it so it doesn't look ghetto. Cruisin the PnP's now. Also, bent the cross member that the trunk lid closes into. Bent it back out and did some welding to reinforce it.

I would rather have had a bumper replacement like you.

You are right about CA. Ive been there plenty of times, No one uses there turn signals, you look like a tourist if you do, I think thats where the whole (California Driver) term came from, In Oregon though, turn signals are a big deal, dont get me wrong, I love driving in Cali, there can be a 60 mph speed limit, I can pass a cop thats doing 68 while im doing 73 and nobody cares. thats awesome. had I been in Cali, I think the other driver would have told me to get F*#ked, but here, he knew he should have been using it, and Im pretty sure thats why he helped me out, In cali I would never assume someone is not turning just because they are not signaling. But in Oregon its different.

At least I am counting this as #3, I should be good for a while, Ill tell you one thing, I drive semi trucks for a living and I am sure thankful that all 3 mishaps happened in my personal car and all where minor things that didnt involve cops or insurance.
