Window winder and inside door handles have an interesting design that I do not think I have ever seen before. Almost if not the art deco period in some ways perhaps? Or at the time perhaps the designers intent was to project ahead into the future. We still have a pretty much totally original 39 Studebaker four door sedan around this area somewhere. I have never met the owner but have examined the car once when parked at a mall. It is original down to the original paint and rubbers. Both need replacing. The original upolstery still is intact and not that bad either. I forgot to look at the odometer but it is probably a fairly low overall milage example. Usually see it on the road each summer somewhere locally.

Even though we had a decent sized Studebaker dealership here just outside town till the end. That is the sole example running around here. Not even a lark is present. I did find the old 53 coupe in storage with no more rust than thirty or more years ago this year. It was originally in a field last time so I thought it was gone or totally rusted away years ago. Only fit now for some form of rod though. You could easily buy a good one much cheaper before the cost of restoration on that one.

Oh yes, those handles are definately Art Deco. Cool, aren't they? Actually those are from the commander sedan. The original coupe handles are much simpler but obviously interchange.

boy this turned out nice, I completely missed that it had a 5-speed in it!

You will need to dispense with the ugly benz shift knob and get something period specific looking that compliments the art deco.

In this attached pic of my long dead 300D dash area, you can see an adapter I made on a lathe to fit an empi round knob and change the shifter knob to a variety of styles. Basically it duplicates the bottom part so it interfaces with the mercedes boot and mechanism with a couple set screws, and then switches to a common thread. I saved this for my other car. I can dig it out if a closeup would be useful

This level of completion is inspiring me to try and get my van conversion completed after a multi year stall when I moved.

thanks JB3!

I could not have done it without all your support and the support of the many other members here who pitched in with information and so forth.

Actually I have a nice wood one I had made by a member here. I'm not sure where it is at the moment though so its not on the car yet. It also lacks a shift pattern. It should be a good match for the Nardi wheel.

There is still plenty to finish up. Interior, mainly....and glass.

Today two things happened. I delivered the Stude to my Indie to sort various niggling problems with the stude.

...and I received my polished valve cover for the engine. It looks pretty cool!

Spiffy!

I went with a silver powdercoat hoping it would hold up with less maintenance and so far it still looks good. If you keep after yours it'll be prettier than mine!
