Stuck in 1st gear!!!!!

HELP!!! My 300TD is stuck in 1st gear!(4-sp manual) The gear shift won't move sideways or front to back at all, and while the position it's in looks more like neutral it is definitely in 1st gear! I can start the car (with the clutch in) and clutch out just like normal, so i can drive her but not shift. Information of uncertain value: I topped the brake/clutch fluid up yesterday upon noticing it was getting lower for the first time i'd noticed. There also seems to be a slight bit of leakage around the line that comes away from the clutch pedal. Any ideas, anyone?

Aaron

Something has probably slipped or come disconnected in your linkages. You'll need to crawl underneath and get a good look at the shift rods and connections.

If the clutch feels normal it's probably the linkages. If it feels too soft it might be the clutch itself, maybe a master cylinder failure or a fluid leak somewhere... depends on what "slight leak" means to you.

Either one of the above sound resonable.

Not on a Mercedes; when this happend to me it turned out to be one Linkage Lever was loose on the one of the Shafts. The Lever moved when you shifted but the Shaft did not.
