Compression test in under 2 minutes per cylinder? Watch the videos!

Dropnosky took these videos so it's not staged. Thanks Drop!

We did #3 in this video since it's the hardest one to get to besides #5, which will take more than 2 minutes.
Video is self explanatory. If you have questions, just ask.
Less than 1 minute to remove the glow plug.

1 minute to install glow plug adapter, connect the compression gauge and crank the engine. Nice music in the background!

It appears the nut was off, or that car has the wire just pushed on, the glow plug in the first video.

Were all the glow plugs removed when the test was done, as per MB instructions?
Can all the glow plugs be removed that quickly?
I doubt it, so perhaps two minutes per cylinder ONCE ALL PLUGS ARE REMOVED would be a better title.

Hello, Interested to know what kind of line that you use for connecting the compression test guage to the glow plug adapter....looks small and easy to fit into tight spaces around the #3 and #5 plugs. Thanks.

I have a proper bump starter but I usually short it at the terminal block with a pair of keys...

That's where mine is connected (with 2 alligator clips).

1/8 o.d. nylon good to about 800 psi.

The glow plugs were not all removed. I pulled only #3 just to do this video. If I were to do a compression test on all cylinders, I would pull all glow plugs first, which would make it actually faster.

The glow plug harness was retrofitted with push on terminals, eliminating the 8 mm nuts which is a PITA. All 5 wires from the glow plug harness can be removed in under 30 seconds. It is part of what makes removing a glow plug in less than one minute possible, as demonstrated in the first video.

The glow plug adapter is a custom made unit with a push on connector. After the adapter was inserted in the glow plug hole, the nylon line was inserted. This took less than 1 minute as demonstrated in the second video. A compression test in glow plugs #1 through 4 can be done in around 8 minutes give and take. #5 will take a bit longer because a gear wrench has to be used inlieu of the ratchet.

That is the video I want to see. I'm sure it took a bit longer to do that.

I'm just trying to figure out why you would want to make changing glow plugs a "speedy" operation. You don't need to change them that often?

Alot of the wiring down in that area is brittle because of the heat and age. Why risk breaking something that could take hours to fix in order to change a glow plug in a few minutes?

Retrofitting the harness with push on terminals is a one time operatinn and took about 30 minutes. There is no risk of breaking anything! The purpose of all this is so I can do a compression test as often as I like, fast and painless. Get it?
