86 SDL glow plugs etc.

I have determined my glows are all dead and its been waiting to happen for a while.

My 1st thought is to dig in and do the plugs and the injectors at the same time, but with no time at all am thinking just do the plugs and if anyone has done this on an SDL without removing the intake and fuel lines.....please give me some motivation.

It's got 150k on the motor and its always started rough but runs great once warmed up.

I really want to do injectors, plugs, and t-stat, and if i could get my head wrapped around the time and expense, i may consider it.

The SL has been taking up all my spare mental therapy time, but the SDL is my long range commuter and it will have to take precedence.

I'm able to reach the glow plugs removing only the cruise control actuator. While you're at it, replace the plastic socket throttle linkage ends with metal sockets from a 617.

well the 300 D has more access. the 6cyl SDL has a lot of crap in the way.
Intake, fuel lines and even the pump looks awful close to the plugs!

Taking your time you can do the plugs with out pulling anything off. The hard part is getting your one arm down to the plug and leaving your other arm out to feed the one that is stuck under everything

An 87 300D has even less access than an 86-87 SDL. Same engine, tighter engine bay. But I've never touched the glow plugs of this car. I'm talking about my 87 SDL.
