pressure plate bolts

Little unexpected snag in my 5-speed conversion (1980 300TD) today as I tried to install the clutch and pressure plates. the standard M8 with 13mm heads i tried to use to bolt the pressure plate up with went too close to the walls of the flywheel to allow tightening. What size head is used for these? Is 12mm small enough or is it some kind of allen head? Anybody got any or can tell me where to get them? I'm guessing 10.9 hardness is correct.

Otherwise, things are coming along well, though I still need the plumbing between clutch master and slave as well as a reverse light switch. Anyone?

Thanks in advance,
KenB
1980 300TD, soon to be 5-speed

Mercedes probably uses small head 12pt bolts there as well- Use allen head bolts, then you should be able to tighten down just fine.

Don't have one in front of me at this time but I'm pretty sure they are M8 bolts with 6 mm Allen heads.

Thanks for the responses, guys! I'll pick up some allen heads locally. It seems the correct dimensions are M8x22. Yes, probably a 6mm allen key fitting. Cool!

I thought I'd check just in case - but I guess you know about this - you do have the correct flywheel don't you? There is a difference between the automatic and the manual...

I'll be putting a 5 speed in the 240 soon. It's already a 4 speed so other than shortening the drive shaft I should be good to go. Ya think?

In addition to a 5 speed shifter and shifter rods of course! And you'll need some modification of the tranny cross member or a replacement part!

The bolts for automatic flywheels and stick are different, on a 123 chassis. I believe the automatic are longer, and if used with the stick will interfere with the block. Might be the other way around but I am pretty sure that is correct.
