Rubber Air Cleaner Grommets

On the 603.912 engine (non-turbo) Ther are six grommets that link the intake manifold to the air cleaner. The car has pretty high miles on it and many of the original rubber pieces are getting or are already VERY hard and brittle. While the car is idling there is a considerable amount of shaking and I am worried that the boots are not sealing correctly around each intake runner. I don't hear any vacuum wooshing, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. Has anybody had these go bad on their car?
