Its a pretty straightforward swap but its much harder without a parts car to swap from.

Unless you can get the driveshaft out of the donor, you'll have problem as they are of different length. Here's a cross-reference list.

It looks like you may have to get the driveshaft out of a 300DT or 300TDT.

Which tranny are you going to put in?

you also should swap the radiator, tranny, rear end and speedometer. a donor car is really nice to have.

I didn't swap any of those. So far the cooling system has been adequate, but I do plan to swap over the rear end and speedo soon.

I'm going to replace my turbo radiator with the stock 240D radiator tomorrow. No reason behind it except the additional clearance it will give for my intercooler tubes and allow me to use euro headlights.

The only tranny that I have is the original automatic tranny that was in the 240d, so you guys are saying that the only thing i have to change to make this work is the driveshaft? no electrical parts or anything else? I really appreciate this as it has been sitting a year now with the turbo on engine stand in the garage and it is the euro model and car itself is immaculate

the 240 tranny is not nearly as rugged as the 300d turbo tranny. i have read that it will bolt up and work.

if using a 240 tranny behind a turbo motor you will need to exercise caution with the throttle as it was designed for half the power you are getting.

If you keep the 240D rear end it should be ok. There is a fellow has been using the 240D auto behind a turbo engine for several years now.

ok?

if you keep the stock rear end of a 240 behind a turbo 300 motor, you will have the fuel economy of a big v8 and more noise than the stock 240 at cruise speed. first gear will be useless. and if you are not careful with the throttle you will still smoke the 240 tranny.

so if all that is OK, then you will agree with bgast.

but i wouldn't recommend it. and the easiest time to make the appropriate changes is when you have it all apart. not later when you will have to disassemble everything to make it right.
