How much do you think this car would sell for?

1983 300SD 125k 1 owner
My mechanic just bought this car from a Doctor who bought it new, he
(mechanic) has had it stored for the past 4 months and doing some front end rubber parts work on it, like track rod mounts and guides and a few other items.

The mechanic gave me the phone number of the original order who I have not yet called to see if he has any service records or maybe even the bunt
rims. But I do plan on calling him.

I did not drive the car yet do to the fact it needs an alignment due to the front end work, but of course I well.

I did start it up when cold and check for smoke and blow-by with the loosened oil cap, both checked out OK.
Ran the A/C which blew cold and checked a few of the electrical switches
that all functioned properly.

Just wondering what you think this car might sell for once cleaned up.
That's kind of what's in the back of my mind to do with it but I'm afraid once I do that and start driving it I won't want to sell it!

What are your opinions?
Thanks

The only rust I found was on the door at the bottom inside part shown in a pic

Seems in decent condition, but, it just doesn't appear like it has 125K on the clock. Too many little things that are worn more than would be expected.

$3700-$4000

as shown.

I would offer $3650 (well, okay $3700) in greenbacks, cash on the barrelhead.
Any over that is gravy for an SD.

It could have been an around town car like mine was. I was thinking $3500-$4000 as well.

He is asking $4k for the car, but I have a 87 300SDL that has some fried wiring problems, he said he would give me $1200 as a trade-in, the SDL has 210k on it with some bubbling rust just starting.

The biodiesel frenzy swirling around the W123/124/126 vehicles is raising their prices on the market.

So a nice low mileage (125k) 300SD in goode shape without rust could indeed fetch $300-$4000, I would think. And they have the cast iron diesel engines, which are considered bombproof, so perhaps an '81-'85 300SD might be the best W126 setup you could get.

I have an 85 300TDT that I am very happy with, but if I were in the market for a nother car, I would pay much more than $4000 for a car like that. $6,000?. Knowing what I know now after driving old Benz's for just a few years, that is the car I would want.
