Question Ok to push it 500-1,000 miles over oil change?

I am going to be driving my beast down to florida in about 12 days, from here to there (down I75), which is Dade City, FL, will be about 1,280 miles....each way. And when I am down there I plan on driving to orlando (disneyworld) one of the days, and to clearwater on the west coast another day, so that would be another 350-400 miles while I am down there, then another 1,280 back home. I did my last oil change at 249,920 or so....with mobil 1 5w40 turbodiesel synthetic, I usually run it at 5k intervals....which would be 254,920.....problem is, I am currently at 252,509, and will probably drive another 200 before I leave, so thats 252,509+200+1280+400+1280 = 255,669 give or take....about 750 over my interval. I add about 1qt of new Mobil 1 every 3000 miles due to leaks and blowby losses (doesn't burn any)....I just did this yesterday, so its right up below the max line.

I would do the oil change right when I got back....anyone think it will hurt my baby if I drive it 5,700 on one oil change? (plus 1.5 new qts of oil along the way overall) Would it help if I drained 2-3 qts out before I left and did a "partial change"? I am very paranoid.

A one time event running on synthetic, you should be fine. If you are really worried about it, just take a new filter to drop in while in Fl. It's only a couple of bucks and well worth your piece of mind.

Maybe an Atlanta area member will invite you over for dinner and an oil change on your way home.

Move on and don't worry. You will be surprised how much abuse an engine will take. And extending your oil change interval by 500-1000 miles isnt even abuse.

Send it to oil analysis afterwards

Whatever you do, DO NOT exceed 3kmiles on your oil. Even if you are on the interstate, stop immediately, even staying in the traffic lane, crawl under the car, drain it, pop out the filter, and refill.

I'm seriously, that thing will lock up tighter than a drum if you go one tenth of a mile beyond the 3kmiles.

I'll try to be not so paranoid. I may do the oil analysis when I get back though, who knows, maybe I can go 6 or 7k safely on this oil....it'd be nice, since its expen$ive....I haven't done an analysis in a long while, it'd be neat to see what it says with nearly 6k on the oil, last time I sent one in was over 1.5 years ago, I was running rotella dino, and only had 2,900 on it when I sent it in. Came back fine....as I suspected it would. Though they did say not to run it much over 3k with that oil because of potential high soot levels.

I'm sure you can run Mobil-1 to 8K without any issues. I might even consider 10K with that oil. I'm probably not with Joe and won't go 30K anytime soon.

The SD easily goes to 6K on Rotella syn.........but it has at least three quarts of makeup oil in the process.

Ah FL I was going to take the SDL down there in March but something else came up.

I don't see why you cannot run 5k-8k miles on D1, don't worry about it enjoy the trip!

Good god man. Its fully synthetic. You could run that to 15,000 miles without question.

Stop worrying. Its synthetic.

pasoSD I'm in Atlanta if you want a good home cooked meal and/or a place to change your oil.

The one thing I REALLY miss on my 93 Honda Accord was the Oil Change meter. Green to red. You never miss an oil change.

My friend just drove his S320 down to FL, and is pushing his oil change about 1k miles on the return trip. (about 6k). I think the Mobil 1 0w40 will be able to handle it.

Trip was just about 1200 miles, only had to fuel up twice These cars have long legs!

Yeah....cruise....it doesn't work at all. I have an aftermarket audiovox system I may try to install sometime in the next week....but if I don't get a chance...I'll be holding 75mph myself for 9.5 hours at a time.

Sometimes the cruise works when its warm out, maybe it will work in FL....

if your cruise is working when warm, it may just be the connector to the module under your dash. mine in the 82SD was finickey when cold, but worked once the heat built up in the car, or on hot days, I pulled it out, and cleaned all the pins and conector with pipe cleaners and scotch brite, seemed to clear it up completely!
now if I could just get the turn signals to cooperate!
