Frustrated! What do i really have to do to make my engine look clean and new?

When i swapped engines and transmissions, I took laborious pains to scrub and remove all the grease pockets off of the transmission and engine. I then used Gunk Engine Cleaner 2 or three times to remove all oil residue and grease residue.
My engine is in good shape and low mileage, but it just has that "old metal look". Part of is that Gunk leaves a chemical film. There is very little engine oil or grease leaking in my engine, yet I just can;t get the compartment and transmission to get that new cast steel look I have seen on other rebuilt vehicles. There seems to be a patina of dark stain on the engine.
How do I get that brand new clean bare metal look?
