broke the button on my hazard light switch

Not only is it broken...but its broken in the "ON" position! Really lame. The place I'd normally want to take this in to (Import Motors in Oakland CA) is closed on weekends.

What I need to know is...is there a way to shut it off without having to d/c the battery, which is what I've been doing? I tried pulling the fuse that seemed to match it, but that didn't work.

Thanks.

You can pull the switch from the console - depending on what year it is it might also disable your turn signals, but the flashing will stop. Just pry the little lip up with a flat head screwdriver, it should pop out. Separate the switch from the the bottom part. The hazard switches are not expensive- you can order them from Fastlane or parts.mbz.org. (or is it parts.mbz.com...one of the two.) Hope this helps.

thanks for the respsonse...

More details: I drive a 1984 300SD. the button is literally broken---as in, it's off the panel, in one big piece (the buton cover itself) and two smaller pieces (whatever "hinges" reached behind it), and all I can see there on the console is a little blinking light.

I figured if I took a flat head screwdriver and tried to find where this thing was connected, and just mimmick the movement, I could trip whatever switch the buton used to trip. Know what I mean? But I don't wanna futz around in there and break something.

i had

a problem with one of these recently. as i remember it defeated all efforts to make it work with the cover off.

i did take one off my parts car that was very stuck and sprayed it liberally with electrical cleaner and switched it back and forth a hundred times or so and it worked fine. with a broken red thingie though i think you are sunk. just unplug it and remember you have no turn signals.

til you get the part

When you say "unplug it," do you mean the fuse, or the switch itself? I don't know the first thing about cracking open that panel! And I got pulled over last night for the first time in my life for having these incessant hazard lights blinking!
