My 300sdl Came From Los Angeles As Well, The Paint And Interiors Stay Better Preserved It Seems And The Owners Seem To Maintain Them Better As A General Rule (always Exceptions)

LA has lots of freeways, people there might put freeway miles on their cars but depending on their driving time will spend most of that time in stop and go traffic
The cars I've seen there in wrecking yards had little evidence that they were maintained well (dirty engines, dirty interiors, high mileage etc) but maybe the nice ones were gone by the time I got there (the early Vulture gets a warm meal!)

Say what! ? seller posted an '86 300D on Craigslist. $2000
Stated the now trite "Mercedes diesels are known to go 500K miles blah blah:

Looks like a 124 chassis to me.
It might be a greymarket or non turbo or a 87 misrepresented:

That looks like the leather wheel MB fitted to the '89 S, SL, and E class.
I've got that too, on my 300.

What's with the sagging and faded seat nets, though? Maybe such a common thing, but it detracts from the car's looks.

New headlight doors, presentable chrome, straight sides, pin-stripe, has it ever been painted?

Exhaust doesn't look like it is positioned correctly. Should be more towards the driver's side.

I would have to agree about the incessant stop and go traffic although it usually lightens up slightly between 3:15AM and 4:00AM

Many of the older Benzes I have seen here LA don't suffer from mechanical neglect or interior wear or even rust...it's the body damage that they recieve from the formula one drivers that clip you at 80mph you on the freeways, drive in the shoulder, swing wide in parking lots, park by impact, kick open doors, jam a H2 into a motorcycle space, sweeping six lanes of traffic while on a cell phone, getting rear-ended from a woman fishing around in her purse which sitting against the passenger seat firewall! (true story ), and panic stopping for a flattened cardboard box on the freeway.....

It is very possible that the 300SDL is owned by a Pacific Palisades or Malibu resident in which the car really could be genuinely cared for. From the few angles it's most certain that the owner had a garage.

124

It is a 124 and MB started making the 300D in 1984. Don't know when the first of them hit the states but they were producing them for other parts of the world...Jim 1958-180D

Go here to find the non-turbo 300D.

thanks for the link, justin
I like the kpg of the Euro Speedo, 0 - 220 KPH with shift points indicated!
I'll have to polish up on my Deutsch Spriken though.
Still that seems like a lot of car for $2K but since I only paid $2350 for an almost pristine '87 turbo, I'll pass.
If it had a 5-speed in it I might be lusting after it though

I drove this car a couple of months ago, a fellow forum member was interested in it. The pictures look better then the real deal and the guy who is selling it is not the orignal owner.
