Dash Mat covers

Has anyone used one of these? I'm tired of looking at my nasty cracked blue dash and for $40 this seems like it may be pretty nice.

i havent used that brand. but some dash covers fit well. i got mine from the pick n pull for 5 bucks and it was plastic. i thought the plastic ones look a little nicer. if you put a cloth one on it will look like a dash mat. but if you like the style. its nicer than cracks

My dash already has a plastic cap and that is cracked so I can only assume the dash underneath is shot. I think I'm going to get one but may shop around a bit first.

I have two of them- one for each of our w123's. I think they are great and look just fine. They certainly protect the dash from further cracks. It's worth the $40.

It mentions there is no cutout for the speakers -- wouldn't that muffle the sound?

Dash Mat thumbs up

I have had a Dash Mat on my 190 for 15 years to hide the cracks. It's open cell foam and fabric, so, yes, it blocks sound from the dash speakers.

If you have good to great aftermarket replacement speakers, you may well notice a loss of high end. If you have the stock speakers, I doubt there's much of a difference. My KEF tweeters are mounted high on the door, so no worries for me.

A reasonable test is put a bath towel over one dash speaker, and see if you notice the difference from one side to the other.

From their website.

In-dash speakers are NOT cut out of dash covers because the fabrics do not distort sounds. DashMat-like fabrics are often used as speaker covers by stereo component manufacturers.

I wanna see pictures of the dashmat in a car...I have small cracks developing and I am more than willing to replace the dash with a new one, but if the dashmat looks good, I am all for saving money.

As promised here are the pictures installed in my 300D. The car has a dash cap installed as well so that seems to have caused some fitment issues since it fit in the 240D without any problems. Overall i'm happy since it gives the car a more finished less ratty look.

Veddy nice

Hmm, that looks very nice! Might have to invest in one for my 240D.

I know the site mentions it does not muffle sound, but can you tell us what reality is?

I am eager to get a Gray one for the summer to keep heat down.

I can't speak from experience since the front speakers in my 300D are shot but it would seem to have some effect. I'm sure new speakers would offset any muffling from the mat.

That or I guess I could carefully cut it where the speakers are at too maybe...

I'll probably get one ordered soon since I'll be out of town and I will post pictures of it myself!
