I would like a cup holder in my 300D.

The previous owner had a very ugly and flimsy plastic fold-out one screwed into the carpet on the passenger side of the console. I have bought the same type except it is sturdy stainless steel. It is a little larger too and has different screw placement.

It just arrived today, and putting it where the other was is not a good option. The angle is off, it isn't so easy to reach, interferes with the passenger leg area, and worst of all requires the seat to be kept too far back. So, no...

I am thinking of installing it is the door, but I am reluctant to make holes and regret it later. Also, I don't want to interfere with anything behind with the screws.

The best place for me to put it seems to be under the handle. That makes it convenient and interferes the least if at all with my driving and comfort.

What do you think?

IMHO do not screw them into the door. Install something in the center console, its easy to remove later. You'll have a hard time fixing the hole in the door card.

Thanks Compu_85, but I ended up going for it, and I think I am pleased.

At another forum several people said they put their holders there, and I saw a nice example posted. So, I went for it. I just couldn't find a good way to make the console work for me.
Actually I took out a screw to check and the vinyl closed up like it hadn't been there. That will change, but I am sure I could patch it well if I need to. I hate disrupting anything on this car, but...

The previous owner of my car put them in that exact location. They held well for the first six years of my ownership, and then the screws loosened up and they pulled out. I put some hollow anchors in there and it firmed right up.

The only issue is if you tire of it being there, you will have permanent holes in your door leather.

If I could ask where did you get that cupholder?

That cup holder looks nicer than any of the ones I've seen on door panels or center console. A nice black ABS plastic one with rounded edges would suit my 300E perfectly, I think. But I don't think I could put holes in my door panels....

Well, I know now what to do in several years

On my 81 300CD I had a trim shop cut a circle at the front of the center arm rest, then remove the foam rubber inside and install a cupholder from a back pack I found at an outdoor hunting/fishing store. My arm rest was always down and I only needed one holder. Never had to worry about shutting the door with an open container.

I made this cup holder for my 300D. It fits in the center console quite snugly . I made one for a friend's 300SD as well.

You can make a cup holder that fits a W123 by taking the center console box from a W124, 300D and trimming the bottom to fit the flat area to area under the armrest. Then go to a marina store and get a boat cup holder insert and bolt it to the bottom of the console box. If you trim the top opening to the rear you can also get a cube tissue box in the adapted console. It's quick and the console insert has a low enough center of gravity that it won't tip out W123 center tray.

I would rather spill my coffee on my pants and shirt and tie. If I am lucky I will spill it one time on all three.

In my younger days, I could drink coffee, read the paper and talk on the phone going down the expressway. Cup holders are for kids.

Very nice cup holder.

Since you have one, needless to tell you they sell a cup caddy that looks nice at NAPA about 10 bucks.

That one is so nice you could inbstall it on top of a piece of wood, and arrange it so it folds bown flat on the base in the middle. Thgat way a passenger could use it too.

BTW your source at Ebay is no longer listed., Any alternatives?
