I live in Panama City, Panama. Most of the Mercedes here come with European specs for Latin America. However some of the owners have imported cars with US specs. I have noticed in some Mercedes (specially those made from 1992 to 1999) that most have a sticker with Gottlieb Daimler's (founder of Daimler-Benz AG) signature. What does this stand for? Is this only found in U.S. Specs Mercedes? If a windshield has been replaced, how can I get one?

I see these stickers all the time on E-bay for a few dollars. Try looking up 'Mercedes decal or sticker' on your search.

I have an idea about what it stands for. First of all, Daimler was not a founder of Daimler-Benz, he was the founder of DMG, Daimler Moteren Gesselschaft (excuse me if the spelling is incorrect), G. Daimler was really the father of Automotive (motorcar) engines through his development of the high-speed (for the time!!) gasoline engines. By way of a long story (better told elsewhere) his vehicles were later named Mercedes, the parent company still was Daimler. Later, after G. Daimlers death, DMG and Benz merged, the result of which gave us Mercedes-Benz, although formally the corporate name was Daimler-Benz. It is my belief that the reason for the G. Daimler signature in the windshield is that the Daimler name takes somewhat of a "backseat", due to the usage of Mercedes instead of Daimler, and Daimler is honored by the use of the signature decal in the windshield. That's my theory, anyways, I know there are alot of people who post here more familiar with the history of these companies, hopefully they concur with what the history is that I've layed out, if not my reasoning for why Daimlers signature is on the windshield.....Gilly (ps my initials are DMG!!!!)

I received my sticker today. I installed it in the lower corner of the windshield on the passenger side, which is where I believe it originally was. It looks great and it was completely free. Give 1-800-FOR-MERC a call, they are great.
