Can anyone tell how to remove the rear deck in a W210 to get to the factory fitted speakers under the Bose grills?. I need these speakers removed to allow my sub to use these openings as ports into the cabin area.

Don't you remove them from the bottom (trunk)?

ss109,

I have already taken a look in the trunk and it seems the speakers can only be removed from within the cabin area. There are no screws in the trunk and you can see through the bottom speaker grill that there is an adapter holding the speaker in place. This sits between the rear deck panel and body of the trunk area.

You might check the speaker grilles and see if they can be carefully pried up vertically to remove them. Many of these grilles are held in place by sizing the edges to sort of snap onto the speaker exterior frame. Try using a dull instrument (table or butter knife maybe) and carefully pry on the grille edge. If that doesn;t work the rear deck should be able to be removed....maybe the grilles are part of the deck.....In any event, the speakers most likely lift out to the interior...so either the grille lifts up, or the deck covering HAS to come up.....

I'll check out this suggestion, but something is telling me that I will have to remove the rear seat - cushion and back part, then go for the rear headrests and maybe the seat belts. And I am not really looking forward to all this.

The speaker grilles can be removed seperate from the deck panel. It is a tight fit, and I think there are 6 clips per grille.

However, the hard part is going to be getting the speaker out. There are two clips that are released from in the trunk, but the speaker does not simply lift out, and there's not enough room between the sheet metal and the trim panel to turn the speaker sideways.

What may be an easier solution would be to just cut the foam barrier that covers the holes next to the speakers.

The other 2 holes in the trunk are where my rear 6.5 coax speakers are. I stripped out the MB system and replaced everything, only for the rear to avoid the extra work the rear speakers were fitted from the trunk and I disconnected but left in place the rear MB speakers. And now these holes are what I want as ports. So it is still looking like the rear deck has to come out.

Well, it looks like we're kinda on the same page. I put my speakers in the factory locations, using the housing that the speakers were mounted in. I didn't try to see if I could take the speakers out seperately from the housing, but this may be an easier option. If not, the speaker and housing will come out as a unit, it's just a tight squeeze. I managed to get mine out without damage to the trim panel.

LRGaston,

So, since you got yours out did you have to remove the rear seat parts and if you did how far did you have to go? Or did you lift up the rear panel to get the speakers out, since they won't come out sideways through the actual speaker hole?.
Thanks for the help.

I got them out without taking anything apart, other than the grilles, of course. As I said before, it was a tight fit, but with enough twisting and pulling, they will come out. I did look into removing the deck, but removing the headrests was an obstacle that I couldn't get past. It's been about 18 months since I replaced my speakers, so my memory is a little fuzzy as to specifically what I did to get them out.
