Where to find discontinued parts
Hi,
Looking for some discontinued parts for my 190E. I know its not vintage yet, but I am having trouble sourcing parts for it. Parts such as the timing chain tensioning rail A1020500416, have been discontinued by Mercedes and the OE manufacturer. MBUSA basically told me to try searching in Europe. After a decent amount of googling and getting no where, wondering if anyone has any good sources on where to find discontinued parts, pretty much doesn't matter where at this point! Thanks for any help!

Actually, the Mercedes Benz classic center in Long Beach does consider the W201 chassis to be a classic car and would be a great place to talk with about anything. Presuming you want to pay for dealer quality parts.
Before you do that, did you check this site's parts pages? They show an aftermarket 2.3l tensioner is available. Don't know if it's the same one for all the 2.3l engines though. the 16v is a rare bird these days. -CTH |

Thanks for the reply, I will try to give the classic center a call directly to see if anything turns up.
This is a 2.3-16v and the EPC calls out different parts for the 8V and 16V. Everything I have found online says the 16v part is no longer manufactured, even directly from febi bilstein..

Never heard of this company before, they show 5 on hand, but you should call then to find out. I usually search with and without the A in front. |

While looking for the tensioner I ran across an article that said the original ones were faulty and replaced under a recall. The new ones have a spring inside that keeps tension on even when the engine is stopped. This prevents chain rattle during start up when the oil pressure is coming up.
I only mentioned this in case you find a used one on Evil Bay. Make sure it is the updated one and not an original that never got replaced. Can't you just rebuild this? Rebuild kits for chain tensioner are common so it seems like whatever is worn could be replaced. |
