Help! ‘70 W114 250C Fuel Pump

Need a fuel for the above. They had a Mr. Gasket #12S fuel pump on it, which is self priming. Any idea of a quality replacement one? I’m trying to still sort out my fuel system this week and I still have to trouble shoot my carbs after that.

If it ain’t one thing, it’s another…

Thanks and Merry Christmas!

It would be helpful if this posting was attached to your initial thread on the subject:

If the existing electric fuel pump works why replace it? You only need 3-5 PSI to operate your carbs.

The model pump you mention puts out 4-7 PSI and 35 GPH which is perfectly adequate for your car.

I ran my 280 for several years using an electric pump similar to the Mr. Gasket model. I did end up eventually moving the pump to the rear of the car to make it a "pusher", but it served its purpose mounted on the front frame rail.

One thing to keep in mind. A fuel filter should be installed AFTER the pump and not before it. The worst thing you can do is to starve the pump of fuel. If you have rust problems in the system, then you can install a clear mesh type filter before the pump. Do not install a paper element before the pump.

Thanks Frank! Thought about it and had tried previously on another post but it’s not working on my phone for whatever reason (just like not being able to start or respond to private messages) and ultimately didn’t do it.

Mike my fuel pump has quit working. I’ve got power to it but judging by the sludge that used to be fuel I’m assuming it is that’s the culprit. Concerning the fuel filter placement, the pump had a filter after it. I also placed have one before the carbs to catch anything as I don’t watch to rebuild the carbs again. But I may need to remove that one because I’m afraid pressure might be tool low there.

Also since now everything should be clean—(makeshift tank, new lines, clean carbs (I hope), and now new pump (once someone suggests a pump) —the rust situation should be solved.

Those are examples. I'm not making recommendations. I have not used that brand of pump.
