W108 Heater Valve Repair

I have a 72 280SEL 4.5 and have recently had my heater core re-cored and am putting new o-rings on the heater valves. All photos and text show two o-rings for each heater valve cylinder, but it seems that there is a "groove" for a 3rd o-ring on the inside end of the heater valve. There were no o-rings in the deepest "groove", but it seems like a perfect place for one.

Any Suggestions?
